I agree. And definitely, Nagy could fail. But I'm kind of glad to see Pace making a calculated but risky move here. It's not crazy risky like the Trestman hire, because this guy is from the NFL and on top of that he is from the Andy Reid tree that has 6 current NFL head coaches. I don't think it's good to "crown" Nagy before he even has coached his 1st game here... but I also don't think it's good to think he's a failure - for that same reason. He hasn't DONE anything good or bad yet.
+1
I'm thinking that Pace was so new to this GM thing that he was an on-the-job learner, saddled with John Fox on top of that. It sure looks like Pace is learning and getting better. We read a few weeks ago that Fox was not his choice for HC. This time around it looks like he was allowed to pick his guy. And he saw something in Nagy that made him willing to take a chance on him. I'm like you, it is a baby step thing now. But even if it doesn't work out, I can see the reasoning behind the hire. And Nagy was worth the calculated risk Pace took in hiring him. I like taking a risk on getting a young HC on the way up, rather than having another John Fox type guy.
One thing though. Just like Pace made some mistakes due to being young/new as a GM. Coach Nagy will undoubtedly make his share of mistakes too. I just hope he is the kind of guy who learns from them and gets better and better. I hope Bears fans are a bit patient with him the first season at least. The end result could be us having a young combo of Pace/Nagy who could be solid for many years to come. A stable franchise. LOL, but not "stable geniuses" :-)
