New Bears coach Matt Nagy will call plays in 2018 112 SHARES By: Bryan Perez | 43 minutes ago
The Chicago Bears have a new head coach and play-caller, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortenson.
Coach Matt Nagy will assume play-calling responsibilities in 2018.
Nagy took over play-calling duties for the Chiefs in December and had a positive impact on the offense.
Chicago’s former offensive coordinator, Dowell Loggains, joined the Dolphins staff last week.
Nagy was announced as the Bears new head coach by the team Monday. Terms of his deal have not yet been announced. Nagy served as the Chiefs quarterback coach from 2013 to 2015 before becoming the team’s offensive coordinator in 2016.
For me this is HUGE. I’ve said from day one my preference would be to have a HC who also calls the plays (OC) to minimize affect on O and Mitchell by revolving door of OC’s. I LOVE THIS!

Nagreed. I thought that was a good plan with Trestman, but that didn't work out so well then. I think this will turn out much better.
Report: Matt Nagy will call plays for the Bears By Matt Eurich 22m ago • 1 min read
Matt Nagy was hired by the Chicago Bears to give the team new life on offense and he will have full control over the play calls. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Nagy will also be the play-caller for the Bears in 2018 for quarterback Mitch Trubisky. He also noted Chicago wants to keep defensive coordinator Vic Fangio but it may prove to be difficult. The news from Mortensen should not come as much of a surprise but there are a lot of cases around the NFL where the offensive-minded head coach does not call plays. Nagy has limited experience in doing so, but he proved down the stretch of the 2017 season that he can get an offense to move the football effectively. Kansas City's offense became stagnant near the end of the 2017 season before Nagy took over. In his first game as the play-caller against the New York Jets in Week 13 the offense racked up 474 yards of total offense. Prior to that the offense had not gained over 400 yards in a game since Week 7. The lowest total the offense gained on the ground in his five games as the play-caller during the regular season was 379 yards in the season finale against the Denver Broncos with a playoff spot already locked up. Nagy's offense also only had three turnovers during his time as the play-caller. Prior to that the team had turned the ball over eight times. Unfortunately for him, the offense did struggle, particularly in the second half, of Kansas City's playoff game against the Tennessee Titans. The offense gained just 325 yards of total offense and only 69 rushing yards. Want to keep up with the Bears during the hectic offseason? Take a second to sign up for our FREE Bears newsletter! One game should not define Nagy's career as a play-caller and it is evident the Bears feel good about his ability to set the offense on the right path.

I like it too. Hopefully the Bears can retain Vic Fangio now. If that happens, then I think we could see the team turned around sooner rather than later. At least there is hope.
Gonna wait 'til after the presser to say much more. We need to hear what Nagy has to say not Chris Mortenson.
Also gonna keep a close eye on what happens with Fangio. If he's not committing today that means he's either gonna wait 'til Nagy arrives and they talk or he's gonna listen to other offers. So still a 50/50 deal so far.
