I'm not sure the lack of play calling experience is a big deal since he's a go between from Wentz to whoever is. Does Reich call plays or Pederson? Whichever he's really only one step away from it. Even if he's not the guy with the headset he has to know what's on that play chart. If I'm interviewing him that's certainly something I would explore and even more reason why Teddy Bears and GMcC are worthless since I'm sure neither could tell anyone how to attack a Cover 2 or protect against a Zone Blitz and who the Hot Read is when it comes.
Hopefully Pace does or we are in deep shit.
What they have in common is age and what appears to be some great respect as rising young offensive coaches. McVay just has more experience is all and he's not available. No one was certain what McVay could do either and to some it seemed like a huge gamble but he succeeded quickly where a far more experienced HC failed miserably so do we place too much weight on experience and too little on football knowledge and an ability to teach it?
For all of Focks experience he was a miserable failure here too.
Nagy wasn't doing it at KC until the last three or four games and word is Reid called plays against Tennessee. Since DeFlippo was the OC in Cleveland he and Nagy are pretty much on equal ground as far as their experience goes. It's Shurmur who has far more in all respects including HC experience but then he's 10+ years older too.
If Pace is determined to have an offensive HC and all three would love to have Fangio stay on as DC then I'm semi-neutral as to which one he sees as the best fit. I like DeFilippo's energy and personality but I also realize both he and Nagy will have the bigger adjustments to make as HCs. To me keeping Fangio if it can be done should play a major role in the choice and so far both Shurmur and DeFilippo have agreed to that. Nagy I don't know.
