Let's face facts. Pace would prefer the best offensive HC "he can get".....but key on those last three words.
Phillips and GMcC are about to make his task much harder by interfering. With Phillips it will be the money thing and with GMcC it will be tired and arrogant old trumpeting on an opportunity to work for a "Legacy Franchise".
I'm not sure he's ever gonna be convinced it's become an NFL "Whoopee Cushion" since the McCaskeys took over.

If it is as bad as all that, why would Vic stay?
It's only an interview and quite possibly more as courtesy AND to find out what if anything might persuade him to stay on as DC and say.....um and asst. HC. You can't date the Prom Queen but her sister needs a date.
Personally I think there's very little chance he's hired as HC and therefore even less likelihood he stays on as DC when there are other options available. Never say never but I can't honestly believe he's choice #1.
Fangio may not want the hassle of being a HC if he's making good money as a DC. I wonder if the Bears might pay enough to keep Fangio as DC. He is reported to be making a lot of money here as DC. If that $2.5 mil/year salary report is accurate, then he is making nearly as much as the lower paid HCs are making now. Top HCs are being paid in the $7 mil to $8 mil range, but lower paid HCs are reported to be closer to $3 mil/yr.

If you have listened to his press conferences, there is no doubt he wants to be a HC. Whether or not that will happen, I don't know. But maybe the asst HC title and more money if no other team takes him as HC might do it. Asst HC in Chicago has to be better than DC somewhere else if your goal is to become a HC.

Maybe. It all depends on who the HC is. Of course after Focks most anyone else should be an improvement.
I will be shocked is he's named HC but only very surprised if he stays on as DC. Asst HC means little. It's normally just a title teams throw on coaches to keep them from getting poached for what is essentially a lateral move.

I think the whole thing with naming someone as an Assistant HC to stop poaching was dealt with by the NFL a few years ago. Basically it is now a meaningless title (at least from the perspective of trying to block someone from hiring a coordinator/assistant away has a HC).
Here's something from Lester over at WCG on it ...
TWO TIERS OF COACHING STAFFS: a coach is either the Head Coach or he is an Assistant Coach, regardless of what title a team may give it's coaches. The League office only recognizes Head Coach or Assistant coach when it enforces the Anti-Tampering Rules.
Basically the Assistant HC position is a coordinator or assistant under the NFL rules.
My concern is continuity on the O side with the development of Trubisky at stake. If we hire a hot shot OC, we may lose him in a year and Trubisky becomes Cutler 2.0 going through countless coordinators. Think we need a HC strong on the O side and qb development. Vince as assistant HC enough enticement to stay?
