Many Chicago Bears fans were happy to see the team fire head coach John Fox on Monday, but many players on the team didn’t feel the same way.
“Everybody was sad,” outside linebacker Leonard Floyd told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Coach Fox is a great man. I love him to death.”
As much as Floyd liked his first head coach, he remained optimistic about the future of the team without Fox.
“We’re headed in a good direction,” Floyd said. “We’ve got a young team. We’re going to keep building.”
It’s up to the new head coach to make sure the Bears are headed in the right direction. If he can lead them to more wins and sustained success, Floyd and the rest of the team will love him to death too.
To me Focks is just like "Coach" Ernie Pantusso on Cheers. It's tough not to like the guy as a person whose like your kindly old uncle but easy to dislike the results from a guy who took more bean balls than he got hits. Focks was hoist by his own petard when he said "it's a results driven business". His results were off the charts lousy.
In fairness, it was a tough time for anyone to become the HC of Bears after Phil Emery left. That's not an excuse for Fox. He needed to be fired. But in a sense John Fox was a caretaker guy to bridge from Emery's exit, to the point where the roster is beginning to recover talent-wise. The roster still isn't where it needs to be. But it is certainly better than it was in 2015. If we hire a solid coaching staff to take over the team now, I think we could be poised to finally start winning here, maybe even have a solid season THIS year. A lot depends on who they bring in - both coaches and players. It will be interesting for sure.

Wouldn't it be nice not to have to switch to wanting a high draft position after only 4 or 5 games into the season when you realize that yet another year will be meaningless?

LOL, yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was also embarrassing to have the team looking so unprepared for games. Sloppy play, stupid penalties and just not looking like they have a clue on offense. The play calling was so conservative and predictable on most plays too. And hopefully we see a team that plays to win, rather than playing "not to lose" games... where we inevitably lose.

I can go along with what you said in that previous post but only so far as year one and that was Focks best record in 3 years. After that it was all downhill offensively once Gase left and Focks but his stamp, or should I call it shadow, on the offense. He may have bristled at the suggestion that anything as lost and that it was "The Bears Offense" but that was never true. Loggains may not be the best OC on the planet but few could have survived Focks interfering.
Then on top of that when late in year three both he and the team are still shooting themselves in the foot with lousy preparation, poor play calling, pre-snap penalties and delay of game, and assorted other mistakes that's just poor coaching and lack of accountability. There's nothing that can excuse any of that this year.
A new HC needs to come in and much like Ditka did tell these guys in three years we're going to a SB and we're gonna win it. It's just too bad many of you won't still be here when we do. This team wants to win but they need to be shown how and Focks could never do that because he coached only not to lose yet did anyway.

In a similar vein, I’m really freakin tired of being eliminated, for all practical purposes, from playoff consideration well before thanksgiving every year.
Im also tired of coming out of the bye and playing like total ass at a time the team should be well prepared and rested.

That is a head-scratcher for me too. The team was MORE sloppy, disorganized and making more mental errors AFTER the bye. How is that even possible?
Floyd can really miss him and I understand. He was his first NFL coach. But the team was not prepared much of the time. Floyd wants to succeed. If we get a real coach and this team takes off, Floyd will love the next coach even more. Not worried about this in the least.

Urlacher was really upset when Jureon was fired, talked about him being the best coach ever as far as players were concerned. Urlacher moved on, so will Floyd.
