JA had some pretty good years early in his tenure. But then, after the SB in '06, he kinda fell apart. The Cutler trade became a disappointment, he was never able to build an offensive cast around his new QB, and his drafting really went to shit.
Doesn't surprise me. People hated Angelo when he left. We'll never know the FO politics/in-fighting that occurred after the Super Bowl but the Bears decline happened right about the time Lovie got his extension and what appeared to be more input into player/roster decisions. Since this occurred with a decline in draft success, it was all placed on Angelo. I do not think he helped himself with some of his later picks--Williams, the pool jumper, etc--as they appeared to be desperate grabs for out of this world playmakers.
He did find some talent and then....poof....it was gone.

Yeah, coaches who get to the SB tend to ask for and get a lot more power and roster control. I'm sure that's what happened. As any military expert--trying to have "co-commanders" for any complex operation almost always results in disaster.
A fact is a fact, so I can't dispute it, but it has also been shown that his drafting record was dismal.
He started flush with players and then slowly deteriorated during his tenure.
I'm still glad he is gone. No other team picked him up so I don't think it was wrong to get rid of him. But what Gabriel said can not be disputed. However, as usual, you have to look deeper than the top layer.
No, Jerry Angelo shouldn't still be GM. He needed to go. The problem comes from Phillips and McCaskey not having in f'ing clue of how to hire top talent and/or the refusal of top talent to work for them and I can understand why. They're both as unskilled in the modern day NFL as John Focks was and yet they won't admit in get out of their own way.
Nothing has changed once again. They sailed their ship of fools onto the rocks and don't have a single clue how to save it.
