Sorry, Jim Harbaugh fans. According to one oddsmaker, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Vikings OC Pat Shurmer are the likeliest candidates to replace John Fox as the Bears’ next head coach.
BookMaker.eu lists McDaniels and Shurmer at 6-1 odds followed by Frank Reich (8-1), David Shaw (9-1), Dave Toub (11-1), Mike Shula (12-1), Todd Haley (15-1) and Jim Bob Cooter (15-1). The field is a little more than 3-1.
Bears fans shouldn’t get their hopes too high for McDaniels, though. Bill Belichick’s longtime assistant is listed at 2-1 to take over the New York Giants’ vacancy.
As for Harbaugh, BookMaker puts the Michigan coach at 15-1 to leave the college ranks for the Indianapolis Colts.

Pace undoubtedly understands that his future as a GM in the NFL probably hangs on getting this coaching staff hire right. Not just the HC, but the entire staff. Coaches who get fired often get 2nd chances with another team... sometimes more chances than that. But GMs? Not so much. Emery and Angelo will never see GM jobs again if they live to be 100.
Ryan Pace knows this. So I figure he'll be crazy-focused upon getting the Bears a great coaching staff. If he does get it done right, then we probably are going to see some great years here with young Pace as GM, and a great HC and staff. But if not, then the pain just continues. We'll just keep cycling through the GMs and HCs. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
I'm not so much fixated upon who he hires, so much as just wanting him to get it right. I have some guys on that HC list that I'm not crazy about, but if they DO get hired I am going to be their #1 fan. I desperately want the losing to stop. Stop the pain the fans are experiencing year after year, decade after decade.
