That was my first thought too mp... But, when it comes to our OL, as it is, we need any help that we can get
Lemme see if I have this straight:
we we kept an overpaid now-3rd string TE who isn’t very good for $6m but we cut a well performing 1st string OG to save $7m
Is that right?
um... I don't know what to say except yeah. He has a recessive stupid gene. Comes out every one in a while. The medical community have named it the Glennon
Hankins released by the Colts after signing for 3/27M laat year. He was high on our wishlist for the Dline and is only 26. I wonder if Pace can sign him on a 1-2 year deal. Would really shore up the line and run D.

Depends on what he's asking but I don't see Pace jumping on him immediately. NT isn't a huge need and as a backup Coward is dirt cheap @ $555k. IMHO someone will pay him more than we'll want to spend.
But is does illustrate how the length of contract and total amounts mean little. Only the guaranteed money and dead cap (if any) vs replacement cost. The higher the guarantees the shorter the deals become.
Not a whole lot of news yet today but there is this.

The #Bears are re-signing LB/special teamer John Timu, source said. 7:35 AM - Mar 20, 2018
Given how thin we are at ILB I'd call this a good move if true. He's cheap and although somewhat limited he's still a heady backup with good instincts and of value on ST as well. Makes good sense to keep him around and let him compete to me.

If Hankins can be had for cheap on a 1 year bridge deal I would be down for that.

Nothing wrong with bringing Timu back. He has filled in when asked and he knows the scheme. He's the type of player you need to fill out your roaster. He seems to know his role and doesn't make any waves.

You do have to like these types of players. Gee ask me to run downfield as fast as I can and slam full speed into people for what they are getting paid I would be all in. Timu gets it, either this or 7-11. Might as well buy a house.
