This is why I say its very important to draft a pass rusher in the first. Floyd has not shown he can stay healthy for a whole season and the only guy who will be healthy by April will be Sam Acho...

Yes, im leaning that way also, our OLB's are weak as hell

Agree completely. Starting caliber edge rushers very rarely reach FA so you have to draft them. And they tend to go high in the draft. As bad as the WR situation is, OLB is easily our biggest draft need IMO.

The more I think about it, I'm like, we need this position... no, we need that position... and it's like we need 6 first round draft picks this year :-(
The only way we can get ahead is for Pace to:
1. Re-sign our own best players who will be FAs this year. Don't let them walk. That has hurt our team in the past. 2. Do one hell of a lot better getting a stud or two FA from other teams. 3. Hit home runs in this draft. This is not the year to whiff on the top 4 picks of our draft class (a 1st, 2nd & two 4th round picks). Those four picks need to be stellar.

As you say, he needs to use both the draft and FA to make this team better. Anyone that thinks otherwise is mired in old Fox think.

+1 The Bears half-assed approach is wearing on me. Yes, Ryan Pace needs to use every single means to getting this roster - and the coaches - we need to win. Being in last place every year is getting old. It sounds like we are going to have a ton of cap money available this year. I totally agree with you BIH, in that we need to supplement the draft with some FA talent too. Why on earth wouldn't we go all out in BOTH areas to improve the roster? Draft well. Use FA well. Both.
Agreed need to use the Draft an FA to fill the holes. Hopefully we could fill both WR and Edge in FA with some experienced players. Draft best available and let them rotate in. We need both

yeah JABF. I don't even understand why I get pushback on that it is just simple logic. Ric is not the only one. I think there are one or two more that feel like FA should only be used to fill holes if you are a player or two away from the SB. While I get that is a legitimate to use FA, it is certainly not the only way, nor is it the most productive way. Maybe people equate FA with overpaying, but one does not mean the other. Just because you go into FA, that does not mean you ALWAYS overpay.
I respect everyone on this board and I know people don't say stuff that they don;t believe in, so I'd like to understand any valid reasons why people don't think that FA should be used just as extensively as the draft to build the team. I think anything less is negligent on the GMs part.

I think FA is very important and you 'over pay' for a guy you are almost 100% sure will pan out. Now, here expertise and judgment is the key

I would love to get to the point like the Ravens and Packers where we solely use the draft and get compensatory picks. We have to many holes now though and need to use both tools to get over the hump
