Yep. They don't need to fire Loggains. The next coach will hire his own OC.
Then, according to the rules of NFL coaching, the two coordinators will fight no-holds barred in a Kumite Bloodsport style arena with raised platforms officiated by Jean Claude Van Damme for the OC position.
Whoever the new guy will be, Im sure he will have an overwhelming reach advantage that Loggains won't have an answer for.
Do you mean arm length or mentally?
Arm length, of course. It is the single most important measurable in offensive linemen and coordinators.
When Fox was hired I think four things were needed:
(1) Someone who could get the locker fixed (2) Someone who could coach young players up--a teacher (3) Someone who wasn't welded to the 'old NFL' (4) Someone who could get the fan base on his side (in general, there are always cranks like me who don't like anyone--present company excluded of course)
The Bears only were able to check one box with the Fox hire. The first one. I believe that Fox knew he was going to have trouble with #2 and #3 and that is why Fangio and Gase were brought in. Fangio did the best he could although he as well (IMO) was unable to ultimately get the DEF turned around. Too many fill in pieces, too many critical errors repeated game after game it seemed and no consistency. Gase was able to turn down the inner-Cutler in Cutler for that one season but then he left. When Gase left I think Fox's fate was sealed. Now there was no one on the OFF staff who could push back on Fox. I still believe that Loggains interview went something like this:
Fox: Log, you want to be OC? Log: Yes!! Fox: OK, but you got to do whatever I want. Log: YES!!
I know others disagree but in today's social-media age, the exchange of information with media is not as important as the perception of those exchanges. Fox still operated under the idea that there are two newspapers in town and a couple of sports-radio guys. While the media rules might have seemed like a good idea at the time, there were very few media personalities and fans willing to put up with Fox being Fox after the first season. When White went down for the first time in OTA/TC his rookie season Fox stood up and lied about it. There was no need for that and it tainted every story on Fox thereafter. As the media's presentation of Fox changed (go back and look at the season 1 and see how the media tried to explain what Fox was talking about and compare it to now where they just post his comments and say something like: "WTF is Fox talking about?" These days Hoge/Jahns just play FOx clips and giggle, because they are finished with him flat out lying or dancing around questions) fans were able to see this across multiple media platforms, amateur bloggers and without any national reporters coming to Fox's defense the local perception of Fox fell. With Facebook/twitter/etc its vital for an organization to make sure the fanbase stays on board and Fox didn't give anyone any reason to do so. Now the organization is going to have to deal with this moving forward.
To be honest, he is the most important player on the team. If Mitch doesn't pan out then its another reboot in 2-3 years. They (Pace/McCasky) have to have Mitch as the number one reason to hire a coach. Doesn't have to be an OFF guy either as long as he/she can present a good plan for an OC/QB-coach who can take Mitch to a higher level of play.
I totally agree. It seems silly to limit yourself by focusing on offensive-minded coaches only just because of Mitch. It's a lazy and dangerous strategy. Yes, we do have a young promising QB but there are also 52 other players as well.
Remember last time people were constantly talking about offense and how we must build a team around the QB? We went up north and got ourselves a "QB whisperer" and didn't give a damn about the defense. That's how we ended up w/ Mel F ucker. And now Pace seems to be copying the Rams just because they got lucky w/ McVay. And let's be honest, the main reason why they were so good this season was because of their defense and running game.
I'm telling you, this whole offense first talk is totally gonna backfire. And if you really don't wanna hire a defensive guy, then go after Dave Toub. That dude is really smart and knows all the different units and positions.
You don't have a qb you have 0 chance at sustained success in this league...so yeah...he's pretty much the most important player on the team.
I'm just saying you don't need to have an offensive-minded coach in order to have a good offense and develop a young QB. Look at Belichick, Carroll, Cowher/Tomlin, John Harbaugh and even Zimmer.

Yep. I'd say that's pretty much the long and the short of it.
If only his coaching skills had matched our passion. The 2nd losingest HC in Bears history was not the result we were looking for outta you John. You weren't even mediocre.
I know that tweet was supposed to be funny but it sure wouldn't hurt to interview guys like Frazier. This franchise needs tough personalities like Ditka and Singletary.
Yeah, that's just great. We are starting the "true rebuild" in year 4 of the overall rebuild. Maybe somewhere about 2021 we can start the "final...for-real this time...I promise, rebuild" after an 10th consecutive season of missing the playoffs

I'm going to disgaree with you on the underlined part above. The reason they got better was that a HC was able to play to the strengths of his young QB and generate an OFF that could score points because teams had to defend the run and the pass. The running game and the passing game were used to build each other up. Goff is a key component of the turn around this year. You can't ignore that or the impact the HC had on his development. When the Rams were finally able to have an OFF that could generate points and allow the DEF to play with a lead, the DEF was able to take that next step and become better than they were before.
I know you aren't saying this but I want to put it in here: If the Bears hire a HC who is all about the running game and playing good DEF its just a matter of 2-3 years before they go through all this again. Mitch and his development is the most important storyline going forward for the next 2 seasons. That doesn't mean they have to hire a young whippersnapper OFF guru as HC. It simply means whoever they hire has to have a plan in place to develop Mitch first and foremost. If Mitch truly can play at a high level the OL will play better, the WRS will play better, and the DEF will play better. Or at least that will be the perception. It might take a draft of OFF tools (WRs and OL at this point, as well as maybe a prospect RB taken in the 5th or 6th round who can run between the tackles AND catch) before it works and that is going to piss off a lot of fans, but if Mitch fails, Pace is gone, the HC is gone, and they start over with New-Pace, New-HC and New-Mitch in 2021.
I don't like it and I'm going to bitch and moan when a WR is taken at #8 and an OT in the second, but Mitch is it. They will rise or fall on his development moving forward.
