The Bears finished 0-6 in the NFC North. It was their first winless season in their division since 1969, which dates to the NFC Central. John Fox’s three-year record against division opponents is 3-15.

0-6 in division 1-11 in conference
4 of our 5 wins were against the AFC which, while wins are always good, count least in terms of playoff considerations.
This was a truly pathetic season for the 3rd year of a “rebuild”. Fox/Logg will take the fall (well deserved, no doubt) but make no mistake this was a fail on the whole organization, Ryan Pace included. Ownership is rumored to be considering an extension there, which would be completely unearned, so frankly I’m pretty underwhelmed about the prospect of a 2018 turnaround at this point. I want desperately to be proven wrong but fear that the work still be done will end up proving to be a bridge too far.

No worries. When George McCaskey tells us how "pissed" his poor mom is, we can all take comfort that the family feels our pain. Again.

If I had a business worth $2 bil plus that grossed $50 mil a year I could deal with the pain too.

The only reason for granting the extension is so his deal and the new HCs deal will run concurrently. Plus it hasn't been done yet. Only rumored. But.....I think for the sake of a new hire that guy will also want to know that he'll be working with the same GM for the duration and that makes sense. New GM usually means new HC too.

So, I just got done watching the game. No, I didn't watch it live, I had better things to do. Like, well, anything. The bears got off to a sluggish start but played better than I expected. A sub 25 offense vs the #1 defense in the NFL is well, I wasn't expecting it to be pretty. I have to credit the bears with finally getting the Knox play right. just wanted to point out the one bright spot.

Yes, I understand the concurrency thing but still think it's a poor idea to "reward" Ryan Pace with an extension at this point. His W-L record is the same as John Fox's and this season's 5-11 is identical to the 5-11 that ended Emery's tenure and brought in Pace.
Pace may have improved the roster's "potential" but the results that actually matter are no better 3 years in to the Pace era than they were when he started.

When haven't they. It's another trademark of the Focks era. That and delay of game penalties after time outs and prior to punts. Beats me how after three years this team can keep making the same mistakes game after game after game. And to this I'll add how can any team have as many shots at scoring from inside the ten as they did and come away with nothing?

I don't disagree but if it happens we may want to see it more as a "concession" to a new hire than a reward.
Biggsy's column gave ten questions he felt any seriously interested HC prospect would want answers to as well and that was one of them. I would feel much the same if I was interviewing. If I have to develop a relationship of mutual trust and understanding with my boss I'd like to know that he's gonna be around for a good long while because if we struggle a bit he's less likely to fire me than his replacement. In the NFL replacing a HC when a new GM is hired seems to be an unwritten rule and every GM wants to enforce it.
What other valid excuse could Emery use for letting Lovie go after winning 10 games and replacing him with Trestman?
I take this as just one more indication of the complete apathy that's gripped us all. The "why bother" feelings of this whole mess.
By tonight, tomorrow, or no later than Tuesday due to the Bears possibly hanging out a "closed for the holiday" sign (looked the Focks and the team already had theirs hung out) we should have step one of a reset completed and Focks will be no more the Bears HC. But what then? Ted Phillips will still be CEO and GMcC will still be the Owner in Charge.
So once more.....what's changed?
I'm actually quite anxious to hear GMcC and Pace come out of hiding and face the music. Ginny being pissed, Teddy Bears being optimistic, and Pace asking for patience will barely cut it if at all. Unless the media is held at gun point and threatened with lobbing only underhand softball questions this upcoming presser should sound like an inquisition and it would be well deserved. Enough is enough.
So as I see it that's the order of things for this coming week as we flip the page into 2018.
I take my hat for all the active mebers of this board, we are some tough s.o.b.'s or just masochistic I guess. Either way - Bear down in 2018 boys!
