And it is. The point this is coming to is with salary cap continuing to accelerate again agents are pushing their top guys to get in on it and not accept less than market value because a year or two down the road MV will be even greater. Such is the case if we compare the 2015 deals AJ Green and Julio Jones got with the 2017 deals Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins got.
If you are one of the top dogs at your position in FA someone is gonna pay you the going rate. If your team wants to keep you it'll be them and if not someone else will. Teams will gamble guaranteed money for top guys for two or three years. That's how it's done now and that's how it was done with Adams. Once he's paid out on the guarantees future employment will be at the Packers option. Or if they're willing to accept the hit for dead cap $$$ he can be released or traded.
You really think they're gonna keep Nelson rather than release him? That's not the impression I get from a few of my GB friends. Cobb yes but Jordy is being replaced by Adams.
I don't see jordy there at 10 million. Jordy has value with Rodgers at QB. Despite the speed being gone he knows where the holes to sit in are and Rodgers always know's where he'll be. I can tell you between Jordy, Cobb and Montgomery I'd be shocked if one and maybe two of them aren't gone.
The thing that makes you have to pay Adams is he is the rare receiver that has proven he can be a game changer without Rodgers... Nobody else on GB's roster can say that (of course Greg Jennings comes to mind)...
Lastly, I think until the Packers commit to getting a balanced team around Rodgers, the days of the Green Bay home town deal are over.
Still much cheaper to live there than Denver. Of course every time I even think about moving back the weather gets like this. LOLOL
That's what I was thinking too and with Jordy being the "old man" it would seem most logical that it would be him but if he takes a salary cut maybe he stays. I think you're right about his connection with Rodger and if he catches on elsewhere i won't be for a whole lot of money. Given a choice of playing where he's most effective or somewhere else I don't know why he wouldn't accept a pay cut if offered but will it be.
Who or what do you think Thompson is gonna be after in FA if anyone and then what's the draft plan? By now I have to believe he sees the wisdom of not being so totally dependent on Aaron to keep the team winning. This has been the second time he's been laid up for awhile in the past 3 or 4 years isn't it? Hundley like most backups can win a few games but if guys like that can even win half their starts they're doing well.
But we're facing the same thing with Fuller you all did with Adams. If the WR are getting $14-$15 mil the guys who cover then want that too. Based on only one standout year it's a tough call to make but like I said if we won't pay market rate someone else will and he's just one of three starting CBs who are gonna be FAs although with Callahan he's an RFA. So Pace has a decision to make. Either work it out or like AJ, we'll lose him.
Now with Adams off the board we should target Watkins early and aggressively. I propose in my new mock 4/52M with 28 guaranteed.
Or they target Ridley in the draft. Similar types. Now that LA is winning and Goff has matured will they even allow Watkins to leave?
One of the more challenging things about this offseason will be finding the right talent both in FA and the draft. There are enough good players but fewer great players and prices are rising rapidly for those few top UFAs out there. We have a lot of cap room but some of that is because we had so many guys on one year deals who need to either be brought back or replaced.
I don't see much happening that way 'til at least February. Pace has to get his HC. HC has to hire his staff. Then they have to evaluate the roster deciding who fits and who doesn't before they can decide who to make offers to. Lots of action. Lots to discuss but little clarity for another couple of months.

Regarding Thompson I'd assume he'll be back but we'll know more by the end of the week. Who knows what's going to happen before free agency even... Adams has enough of a body of work to warrant the contract. He's a playmaker and you have to have those guys.. It's the concussions I worry about

I think it's a concern for every team since we all seem to have a player or two more prone to them than others. And it's also gotta be a major concern for the NFL in general. Multiple head injuries and CTE seem to be confirmed as going hand in hand. I'd hate the see the game torn up by so I'm hoping they can develop better headgear.
Happy New Year to you and yours. Let's hope for improvements for both teams so the old rivalry can be resurrected. There's not much left to it when the Bears are always getting their asses kicked. Hopefully we have our own Aaron Rodgers now and if he can even get close to accomplishing what Rodgers had we'll be much happy campers in Bearsville.
Always good to see you drop by for some football talk.

Looks like you all will be looking for a GM as well. TT is moving on up the Organization.

"moving up"... I think they're saving face with him... I think the next GM will be one of the Generals like Elliot Wolf
