You mean they are not going to give Aaron Rodgers guys like Bellamy? And they re-signed one of their best young players? Imagine that.
I think you’re missing my point. I’m ALL for paying guys who have earned a big contract, and I wish Pace would have paid Jeffery. I also hope he finds s way to keep Fuller here as CB’s are the hardest position to fill outside QB. That being said, GB just gave Adams top 5 WR money. He’s not even close to a top 5 WR IMO. Also, GB already has ALOT of money tied up in Nelson and Cobb.
Both Nelson and Cobb are under contract for 2018, but each is attached to a $10MM salary. While the Packers could look to adjust these figures, they now have three wideouts attached to eight-figure-AAV deals. No other team matches that commitment.
I think this was a bad move on their part. Why pay him so much?
Your points are good. It may end up a bad move. Don't mind me... I'm just jealous of how they support their offense.

unless I'm not reading spotrac right, Nelson only has a 2.3 mill dead cap number for next season and Cobb has a 3.25 mil dead cap number. Don't think either are getting cut but there is that option.

Nelson’s base salary next year is 9.25M while Cobb’s is 8.6M. With their signing bonuses they are both near or over 10M. They are BOTH in the last year of their contracts next year so this signing DOES make a lot of sense now knowing that. Nelson is all but guaranteed to get cut this offseason knowing there is only one year left on his deal. No way they carry 3 WR’s each making over 10 M
Yep. This is how you get a deal done and make sure you don't lose a valuable high draft pick whose busting out as one of your best players. We can expect Fuller to be looking for a deal that guarantees $25-$30 mil as well so get ready for it.
GB live and dies by Aaron Rodgers arm so of course they're gonna commit massive amounts to having great WRs. This is also a reason why they don't overspend in FA. They spend it on keeping Rodgers safe and guys for him to throw to.
Paying a guy that’s earned the $ is one thing. MASSIVELY over paying is another. No way Adams would have made that much in FA he is not even a top 10 receiver IMO
No? Look, he's getting what amounts to $14.7 per year on average. $58.75 mil with $32 mil guaranteed. AJ just got $52 mil/$13 mil per year average with $26.75 mil guaranteed. No matter where these two guys in rank in production both just go paid as top ten WRs and had they not been extended they would definitely headed the UFA WR class and gotten major offers from other teams. GB and Philly got in early to avoid a bidding war.
Take a look at the deals Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins just got that average $16-$17 mil per year. True he's getting Julio Jones/AJ Green kinda money but those deal were done three years ago. If Jones was negotiating today he'd be asking for $18-$20 mil per year. The cap's on the rise and so are top salaries. I'm re-calibrating all of my thinking after seeing what guys are getting. Keeping Fuller is gonna be costly. IMHO $12-$13 mil per year costly.
But remember all that's really at risk for any NFL team is the guaranteed $$$. So GB is only risking $32 mil on Adams not $58.75 mil. The same with Philly and AJ. Anything over $26.75 mil only gets paid if he's playing and he earns it. Teams can get out for 4 years deals after 2 or 3 at most by talking a cap hit that's far less than a guy's salary.
That's like where we are with McPhee. He got a $38.75 mil deal but he's only been paid a little over $23 mil so far. We can release him and not owe him another penny and all we take is a $1 mil dead cap hit vs his $8 mil salary. Most of these big dollar deal don't pay off 100% unless like Peanut you keep getting better not worse.

Jordy will be gone. He'll be 33 years old and Adams just got paid to become GB's #1 WR. Cobb will stick for at least one more year. JMHO

Agreed. Adams just got paid to become GB's #1 WR and Nelson who will be 33 in May will be released. That's my take an also what my contacts in GB report the new is from up there. Cobb will stick for now.
If we want to add an experienced WR on a cheap one year deal maybe we should look at Nelson. The "experts" think we need to add three just in case Meredith isn't what he used to be. So sign a young UFA WR, draft one, and consider an old war horse like Nelson as a third on a one year deal. That's if he doesn't decide to retire.
I don't like it. He's had two or three major concussions now... If we take that out of the equation though it's the going rate. He's a stud. Cobb and Nelson will probably be renegotiated.

And it is. The point this is coming to is with salary cap continuing to accelerate again agents are pushing their top guys to get in on it and not accept less than market value because a year or two down the road MV will be even greater. Such is the case if we compare the 2015 deals AJ Green and Julio Jones got with the 2017 deals Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins got.
If you are one of the top dogs at your position in FA someone is gonna pay you the going rate. If your team wants to keep you it'll be them and if not someone else will. Teams will gamble guaranteed money for top guys for two or three years. That's how it's done now and that's how it was done with Adams. Once he's paid out on the guarantees future employment will be at the Packers option. Or if they're willing to accept the hit for dead cap $$$ he can be released or traded.
You really think they're gonna keep Nelson rather than release him? That's not the impression I get from a few of my GB friends. Cobb yes but Jordy is being replaced by Adams.

I don't see jordy there at 10 million. Jordy has value with Rodgers at QB. Despite the speed being gone he knows where the holes to sit in are and Rodgers always know's where he'll be. I can tell you between Jordy, Cobb and Montgomery I'd be shocked if one and maybe two of them aren't gone.
The thing that makes you have to pay Adams is he is the rare receiver that has proven he can be a game changer without Rodgers... Nobody else on GB's roster can say that (of course Greg Jennings comes to mind)...
Lastly, I think until the Packers commit to getting a balanced team around Rodgers, the days of the Green Bay home town deal are over.
