I'm not disagreeing. But it just hit me that if we have to do this, we're back to Lovie-ball on offense. Everybody and their brother stays in to try and protect Jay. And the endless bubble screens to watch on Sundays too. Oh boy.
Well at least we have better WRs now than we did back when Lovie was in charge. I actually like the idea of some plays with max protect if they start blitzing LBs against us or run a Safety or Slot CB up to blitz like Denver did.
With the speed White and Royal have if they double AJ one of the two has to be getting single coverage so you identify which and that's who you look to. I think even KW can understand a play call that tells him just take off and run as fast as you can and look for the ball when you bust the coverages and catch the damn thing. Royal could be dangerous under those circumstances as well.
I think what bb is getting at is we didn't even try something like that to make them back off a bit and as a result they show no respect for Whites deep speed to the wrong side of the field or Cutler's arm strength.

FIFY.
LOL Well that assumes he knows that a go route or fly route means straight up his side of the field. We used to have a name for that play back in the '60s but it's highly inappropriate, most politically incorrect, and dripping with racial overtones so it's impermissible to use in today's more advanced culture but you do......uh.....get the gist of it right? LOL
For a team as marginal as the Bears, every thing about the team has to be operating at peak efficiency. They can't afford to give anyone they play even the slightest edge.
So a few questions:
(1) Why not max protect more against an elite pass rushing team? (2) WHy not run more screens to slow down the edge rushers (3) WHy not use the FB as a blocker on pass plays? Send RB to Leno's side, and FB to Messie's side. (4) Was there no self-scouting going on during the game? No college intern in the press box with a peice of paper writing down: shotgun-pass, shotgun-pass. undercenter-run...who suddenly grabs the phone and calls someone who grabs Loggains and passes on the news?
and I'm sure there were more.
All great questions, I believe it's just another bad incompetent OC. I know you'd find it hard to believe the Bears would ever have a incompetent OC.
How on earth do we manage to find so many crap OC's on the Bears teams? It's like we collect 'em here. It does get old.
I shouldn't pile on to the guy after 1 game. I'm wanting to see a glimmer of hope that this offense can be good enough - just good enough - to someday (in a land far far away) allow us to be a strong playoff team. I know that's not happening this year. I've resigned myself to that fact. But I want to see something to give us hope for the near future... like next season in 2017.
The years are flipping by, and the decades are flipping by us fans - the GM's and coaches come and go - but the team seems to be stuck in a rut. I've accepted the fact we cannot change the past. But I want to see that glimmer of hope for the future... and when I see yet another season of floundering Bears offenses (and the annual OL woes still there) I get a bit down.
One other point. We fans get red-hot upset when the sports world predicts our beloved Bears as bottom-feeders each year in the NFL. But the truth is we ARE a crappy team until we prove to be otherwise. We've "earned" that crap status. It's downright painful to watch the Bears in some games - even for fans, much less for the sports writers who are not invested in the team.
Getting back on topic. The Log may get better. If not, then we've seen this movie before. He'll be out. Another dud will replace him. The clown show in Chicago will go on.

The sad part of this entire thing Cutler has been a QB in this league for 10 years and he still can't call his own plays. At this point in his career and being about same age as the OC dwarf he should be the one drawing up the majority of the game plan. When you talk of Brees and Brady you know those guys even with the play callers they have know what the F to do when the shit hits the fan. Jay looking to the sidelines solemn face waiting for a play should never happen to him. By this time Jay should be man enough to say fukk'it I'm calling the next play I know exactly what this team needs. Please Jay become a real fukkin QB in NFL and act like one but, than again 17 zillion dollars doesn't buy much of shit in today's football terms.
The hyperbole after week 1 is asinine. You don't overhaul the offense after one tough first week, a first week I'll remind you that saw a first half FULL of success offensively, unless, of course, you're the Buffalo Bills.
You don't overhaul an offense during the season even. You tweak it, you add to it, you diversify it, but you don't overhaul it.
I would wager a lot of the struggles the offense had with the predictable playcalling came from lack of experience. The playbook is not wide open at the moment in large part because we have a lot of new pieces on this offense. Cody Whitehair, Josh Sitton, and Logan Paulsen were all brand new to their positions on this team week 1. Not only does the offensive line need to get comfortable with one another, but these guys need to learn the blocking schemes and the 'veterans' on this team need to get used to how these players work.
Kevin White is not 100% go with the playbook (clearly) either and that's a limiting factor.
I imagine this week the Bears will look more consistent offensively than they were last week.
