"Currently, the Chicago Bears are 13-33 under general manager Ryan Pace. That means that if the Bears had back-to-back 13-win seasons after splitting the last two games of this season, they would hit a 50 percent winning percentage under the guidance of the man from Flower Mound, Texas by the end of his five-year deal.
I am often critical of Pace, but even if I were a strong believer in his abilities I would find it difficult to believe that the Bears are that close to turning the corner.
To put it another way, if the Bears win out this season and then have three consecutive 11-5 seasons, they would barely have won half of their regular-season games since Pace took over.
That then is the question of the day. It’s impossible for Pace to break even in 2018 (31-33 is the best he could hope for). In 2019 it is just barely possible. In 2020 he could do it, but it would take Pace delivering on what he promised he was trying to build - a solid year-in, year-out contender.
Can he do it?" _________________________________________ Currently at windycity 34% for never and 36% for 2021 or later.
If Fox is jettisoned, and Pace has a 11 to 13 win season next year, the wins (in terms of his contract renewal) will be measure in terms of WSF (wins since Fox). It would make no sense to get rid of a guy that is trending up and starts out with a 12 win season with a new coach. Yes, his record will be measured in total, but like any other position, the question will be asked "what have you done for me lately", and if he can show the problem was that Fox was not using the talent he accumulated properly, his record under Fox will not count towards his next contract.
Yep. I'm with houston. This season for certain needs to be discarded from his evaluation as far as our record goes. Focks should have been fired after last season and I think most of us assume Pace wasn't given permission to do that.
Although Pace has also contributed mightily to his own failures I'll accept placing more blame on the overall dysfunction of the team than holding him personally accountable even though it is typically is a GM who is held responsible. But then this is the McCaskey owned Ted Phillips led Bears we're talking about so the formulas must be altered to compensate.
Provided his coaching hire is sound and the Bears are headed solidly back into contention in 2018 I'm not gonna worry at what time Pace's record is .500 as much I am our current season records show 10 wins and more each year and we're in the playoffs competing for a championship.
To degree the record will under go a reset once Focks leaves.
Maybe we should not hire the buddy of the man we paid a bunch of money to find our next GM and head coach.
Funny how that worked out isn't. Accorsi: "You need a HC so well um.....hey my buddy John is available". Denver just let him go and he had a sterling record there. Now, I would have at least wondered and given some thought as to why a HC who twice took his team to a SB was fired a year or so later and the last time after finishing 12-4. What went wrong?
To me it's kinda like deciding to marry a woman whose been married and divorced three times before. What are you seeing or overlooking others didn't? I'd like to think we'll be smarter this time but nothing in their past tells me Phillips or GMcC have necessarily learned much from past mistakes. Therein lies the dysfunction that encompasses the Bears management.
People...its not a survey on firing Pace nor a referendum on Fox. Since everyone believes that Pace is not a fault here, how long will it take the new coaching staff to get Pace to .500?
But if they don't get to 8-8 next year it sure will be interesting to see people turn on Pace.

Now I’m confused on the question. This post makes it sound like you’re asking when will Pace have a .500 or better season. Your original post makes it sound like you are talking about Pace’s overall record. If you are talking overall, NO WAY IN HELL does that happen before 2021

You're right, I worded that poorly. I meant 8-8 next season but .500 overall.

i do think the bears could very quickly get to .500 with a decent coach. it could happen next year, but Pace is going to need a lot to get to .500. i'll judge him on the next coach hire and upcoming offseason more than w/l though. I would expect it takes 2 years for the bears to be playing competitive ball with a new coach.

And IMHO then it may be time to examine Pace more closely since he will have hired and new HC and had yet another offseason to add talent and fix the injury issues. Also IMHO there is already enough player talent on this team to win half it's games but not enough coaching talent concentrated in a HC and OC.
We lose when we are poorly prepared on offense and have poor game plans which is most every game. Fix that part and reduce losses to key players due to injuries and all of a sudden we start winning. With even a half way decent offense we could have won several more games this year. 8-8 should be a minimum for 2018.
