The Chicago Bears haven’t been a beacon of success recently. The John Fox-era hasn’t been kind to the Windy City, this following Marc Trestman’s failed attempt at restarting his NFL coaching career.
But even the most disgruntled Bears fan may not know exactly how bad it’s been.
According to FootballPerspective.com, the Bears have had the worst regression in winning percentage since 2013.
The Bears were a moderately successful team during the Lovie Smith era (2004-2012) and simply haven’t been able to get back on track since his dismissal.
Their 22.9-percent dip in winning percentage ranks as the worst in the NFL over the last five years.
The Bears are expected to make a coaching change this offseason in an effort to restore the standard of wins that Smith set during his nine years in charge. Hopefully, the third time will be the charm.
This is one we can lay directly at the feet of GMcC and to an extent Teddy Bears as well. GMcC became COB in 2011 and began to take a more active role in Bears management. In 2011 Phil Emery was hired. In 2012 Lovie was fired and Marc Trestman hired. In 2015 both were fired and Pace and Focks hired.
Before the GMcC era began we were winning slightly better than 50% of our games went to one SB and fell one game short of a second SB. Since then and the turnover in GMs and HCs we've won just 33% or our games and it's getting worse. So George, tell us again why you and Ted are the best managers of this team.
Of note are three team who also have had double digit regression; NOLA, Balt., and Atl. But those team were winning 65% to 70% of their games and regressed to around 50%. We were only winning 56% and regressed to 33%. Big difference.
If we were no better than a .500 team fans would not be happy but they would not be as angry and disgusted as they are. Change has made this team far worse and what bother me is those who made it far worse are still insisting on making all of the decisions on current and future changes. How does that convince anyone things will improve?
It's very apparent this is a McCaskey mess again and yet they will not do what's most logical to change it and step aside. It's very hard to support that kind of arrogance and stubbornness.
The good old days of 56%, wasn't all that good. Moving on from Lovie was warranted, but the organization has no clue how to build success. Changing the coaches again isn't going to solve the problem.

Given the current state of affairs I'll take it.
We may have lost some games under Lovie we should have won and that was frustrating but we were never humbled, beat up, and destroyed like we have been under Trestman and Focks. It's like a whole other world now. Under Lovie we wouldn't even be discussing a possibility of losing this game to Cleveland. That's how bad this has become.
And I'm convinced only the Bears could fire a HC after going 10-6 and two years later hire a HC fired after going 12-4 and actually get far worse. But don't tell GMcC he and Teddy Bears don't know WTF they're doing. It'll hurt his feelings.
I know some of you here wasn't a fan of the Lovie era do to being a just "average" team but I would happily take that over what we were given since.
Going 10-6 is much better then going 6-10, 3-13, and what ever we are going to be this year.
nah. You never want to go back to what you know wasn't good enough. Just because the situation is now worse doesn't make the previous meh situation ok. The goal is not to be average. The goal is to be a perennial contender. By being happy with average, you are still in a place you are not happy with.
The problem needs to be fixed rather than your expectations lowered.

Every additional day Phillips and GMcC remain in charge expectations need to automatically be lowered.
