The Chicago Bears haven’t had a ton of success as a team this year, but a few individual players have still put together impressive seasons.
Some of those impressive individuals deserve Pro Bowl recognition. The voting for the all-star game ends Thursday night at 11:00 central time, and at least a few Bears players have a real shot at earning the honor.
The Pro Bowl is a bit of a popularity contest, and at 4-9, this team isn’t too popular outside of Chicago. Still, there should be a few navy and orange helmets representing the team in Orlando.
Here are four Bears that deserve to make the Pro Bowl this season.
DL Akiem Hicks
Akiem Hicks has been the Bears’ most consistent defensive player all season. He leads the team with seven sacks, but so much of his impact isn’t measured on the stat sheet.
He demands the attention of multiple blockers, freeing up his teammates for more one-on-one blocks to get after quarterbacks and bring down running backs in the backfield.
Interior defensive linemen don’t usually get the praise they deserve, but Hicks has been active and impressive enough this season to get the Pro Bowl nod.
LG Josh Sitton
Josh Sitton has been the Bears’ most consistent offensive lineman since he came to Chicago last year.
According to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed only 10 pressures on 335 pass-blocking snaps this season. PFF ranked him as the 10th-best offensive lineman in the NFL through the first 14 weeks of the season.
He locks down the interior to give Mitchell Trubisky time to throw, and he helps open up lanes for Jordan Howard on the interior. Even at age 31, Sitton is still playing at a Pro Bowl level.
S Adrian Amos
Chances are low that Adrian Amos makes the Pro Bowl this year, but he is having a great season that is deserving of that type of recognition.
As more of a box safety, Amos doesn’t get the high-profile interception numbers or as many of the highlight reel plays, but he has played like an extra linebacker against the run and an extra cornerback in coverage.
He does have two forced fumbles on the season, and he also got his first-career interception earlier this season, taking it back 90 yards for the touchdown.
WATCH: Adrian Amos goes 90 yards for pick-6 off Kyle Fuller's deflection
Prior to suffering a hamstring injury two weeks ago, he was leading the Bears in tackles, and his play this season likely won’t get the recognition it deserves from Pro Bowl voters.
RB Jordan Howard
Jordan Howard isn’t having quiet as incredible of a season this year as he did as a rookie, but he’s still the NFL’s fourth-leading rusher.
He’s already surpassed last season’s touchdown total, now with seven on the year, but he’s continued to struggle in the receiving game.
Still, his consistency on the ground has really helped take the pressure off of Trubisky under center, and Howard is still putting up impressive numbers despite opposing defenses stacking the box to try and stop the run.
He only made the Pro Bowl as an alternate last year, but with two years of production under his belt, he may fare better in the popularity contest this time around.
