This question popped up in the Suntimes:
@markpotash Does the coaching staff plan to get any of the other RBs involved after Langford handled all but one carry on Sunday?

Yes. Fox pointed to the disparity in plays and time-of-possession as the factor. The Bears had the ball for just 23:41 [third lowest time-of-possession in the league in Week 1] and had 18 running back carries to the Texans’ 36:19 and 31.
“The fact that we only ran it 20 times [was a factor],” Fox said when asked why the running back-by-committee never developed. “The difference was they ran it 35 [times], we ran it 20 — so that time of possession, that usually plays into that.”
What I don't understand is...what differences does the TOP make to the RBbC? If its a true timeshare than wouldn't Langford be splitting series with Carey and Howard gets one from time to time? Why does the number of carries matter a well?
First series-Langford 2nd series-Carey 3rd series- Langford 4th series-Carey
And Howard comes in during a series if someone gets dinged or needs a break. What am I missing here? Seriously confused.
It might not be as simple as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. But There really isn't a reason that no other RB got carries except Carey w/1 in 4 qtrs of football. Then again it doesn't really make since that Floyd got far more time on the field then either Houston or Young.
It was like Fox and his staff decided to use this as an "live practice" to see what and how everything was going to shake out w/the young players.

That's OK, I think Foxy gets seriously confused at times too. There are times when even he seems to forget what he's said previously or like Houston, he using his own MSU (Make Shit Up) to answer a question he's not ready for when it's thrown at him.
There's no way to really confirm this but I have to wonder after all this time if at his age his though process is slowing down which is leading to him not being on top of these challenges or in game decisions that require an immediate analysis of the situation. It seems there are times when he likes to fall back on some ancient "well I've always done it this way" kind of reasoning that's a bit non sequitur.
A good example would be his bristling at the comment that running the ball IS an aggressive approach when it hasn't been for nearly 20 years.
Foxy may have been the right choice for a newbie GM to use to turn the team and the culture around at the time he was hired but in the long run I'm not altogether certain we may not need a younger more dynamic offensive minded HC to finally break us out of this pattern we seem to get ourselves into of expecting the defense to be the one to always win games for us.

Yep. That's pretty much in line with what I've posted about it looking more like a 3rd preseason game than a regular season opener. It's like Fox hadn't completely made up his mind about some things and he'd decided that since the odds of winning weren't great anyway he'd just try a few things out.
His comments this week seem to lead in that direction like admitting they may have used Floyd more than they should have. As far as the RB deal goes saying we only ran the ball 20 times isn't an excuse for only one back getting 19 of those 20 carries either. That's what I mean about his non sequitur responses and my wondering if somehow he's losing his edge.

I know the media has to stay on Fox's good side, so they typically just report what he said, but seriously one reporter can't ask:
"Coach Fox, what does the TOP have to do with sharing carries?"

I'm not trolling here, or wanting to bag on Fox, I just want to know. There might be a reason that I can't think of.

Ha ha well I know if they'd give me a press badge that's what I'd be asking him. But then that may be my last day attending his pressers. LOL
Fox will just say something about a RB needing carries to get his timing down or he'd parrot the announcers who were saying Langford gets stronger and better as the game progresses. BS That may have been true in college but I haven't see it in the pros. In fact it seems like much the opposite.
Another question I would ask is why not use Lasike at FB to help Massie pass block? Using a TE didn't help much. That would have allowed them to use Miller more and still have Langford and two WRs in the pass pattern. If Cutler couldn't trust KW on short quick throws in the middle he sure as hell could have trusted Miller but we didn't use him much.
As I posted the personnel groupings just seemed odd to me given what Houston was doing defensively.
The problem is that we don't understand that RBBC means the Running Back is the Ball Carrier. Fox has been true to that. I think the problem is that the running game is "day to day" now. LOL, and we've found out that means practically dead.

Translation = How the hell should I know I'm a football coach not a (whatever fits) ask me again tomorrow.
