Lets flip the switch here and post why we feel bad for Fox. I'll go first.
Fox arrived when immediately soured the media on him with his closed mouth ways. These ranged from the restrictive rules about practices to his refusals to give anything even remotely resembling an answer at press conferences. The media was willing to be on his side, to build him up and give him the benefit of the doubt.
Now because he didn't even try to open up, the media has basically stopped giving him the benefit of the doubt on anything. Regardless if we believe it or not, the media is still the way we get our news about the Bears.
Here is a classic example from today. The press has stopped even trying to translate Fox for the world. They are happy to make him look foolish and he willingly goes along. Here is the quote from a recent press conference. The Trib presented it verbatim, and then mocked Fox for saying it, rather than try and explain the context or even attempt to give a sense of what he was talking about:
"“Getting him on the field is something I think our guys do,” he said, contrary to Cohen playing his second-lowest single-game percentage of snaps this season. “I think he's still one of our leading receivers on the season. We went through a stretch there where maybe we didn't throw it as much as some people. But he's involved quite bit. I think defenses are doing more to take him away. … The key is that we move the ball and it's been a struggle. I think but I don't know that that's the reason.”"
I feel bad for John Focks for not retiring after Elway fired him and for agreeing to help clean up Emery and Trestman's mess.
Was the situation he walked into a good one? No But he hasn't made it better through his coaching either. I guess after losing a SB again in Denver he wanted to go out as a winner and on a high note. Obviously that isn't gonna happen and the legacy he leaves will be a very poor one clouded with mistakes and foolish blunder no experienced HC should make.
I guess if I try hard enough I can feel a tiny bit bad for that but far worse for Bears fans who've suffered through it.
