John Fox on Tarik Cohen: 'Defenses are doing more to take him away' By: Lorin Cox | 2 hours ago
Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen was the offense’s secret weapon to start the season, but since they lost the element of surprise, that weapon has looked more like a gimmick as of late.
Head coach John Fox offered his explanation on Cohen’s recent ineffectiveness when he spoke to reporters on Monday.
“We went through a stretch there where maybe we didn’t throw it as much as some people. But he’s involved quite a bit,” Fox said, via Adam Hoge of WGN Radio. “Defenses are doing more to take him away. I think there were situations in that game yesterday where he was doubled so we had to go to somebody else.”
In the first four weeks of the season, Cohen rushed for 181 yards. In the five games since then, he’s rushed for 48. As a receiver, 150 of his 249 yards came in the first four weeks, and his only big play since was his 70-yard catch against the Panthers.
Cohen touched the ball just twice against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and the Bears are going to need more from the player offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains called their “best play-maker.”
So he's their best "playmaker" but he only gets two touches yesterday?
How in the hell poor can anyone be at scheming and game planning to only find a way to get the ball to your best "big play weapon" twice. For instance why was it Cunningham who was the recipient of the screen pass he fumbled away and not Cohen who might have scored despite the shitty blocking.
AND......if your weapon is always being double covered or has a spy on him wouldn't help others to be more open of could they not use Cohen as a decoy knowing how obsessed the Packers might be with not letting him burn them for a big play. I have to wonder if Focks ever realizes just how dumb he sounds when he says stuff like this.
It's like insisting on running against 9 man fronts and then saying well the other guys didn't give us much chance to move the ball on the ground as if somehow they're supposed to cooperate with the way he wants his offense run. Jeezus. I can't take any more of him, his brand of football, and his lame ass excuses.
Wake me when the new HC arrives. In the meantime I'm gonna watch more Netflix.
