PFF Elite Stat: Amos is allowing only 0.21 yards per coverage snap, the 11th-best mark among safeties with at least 100 coverage snaps.
Amos leads all NFL safeties with a coverage grade of 91.4 this season. Despite being one of the most frequently targeted safeties in the league at once every 11.5 coverage snaps on average, Amos has surrendered a first down or touchdown on just 27.8 percent of his targets. That’s the sixth-lowest mark among safeties with at least 10 targets. He’s allowed just 41 yards on 13 catches in coverage this season, with a mere 19 of those coming after the catch. His 17 solo stops are the sixth-most in the NFL this year among all safeties.
Speaking of Amos, instead of creating another thread about him I'll put it here:
NFL's 10 most valuable players, on smaller contracts
1. Adrian Amos, S, Chicago Bears
Entered league: Fifth-round pick in 2015 draft
2017 overall grade: 92.0 (No. 2 safety)
2017 position salary ranking: 107th-highest-paid safety
A quality starter since being drafted (79.7 and 80.6 grades in his first two years, respectively), Amos has taken a leap to elite level of play through the first half of this season. His 3.2 yards per completion in his coverage is tops among all safeties, as he has only allowed 41 yards receiving for a passer rating of 53.8.
Hope he continues to ascend. I remember when he first came in and won the starting spot his rookie year and one of Fangio's first comments about him was something to the effect of: he just looks like an NFL safety.
Pace has definitely improved the team's talent, and Amos is a good example. I think that with one more draft and FA we should be a really good team again.
Amos was another guy who when drafted some felt could have gone higher but he was moved around quite a bit at PSU from CB to Safety and the back again so maybe some saw him as more of a project than others. He made the All Rookie team then seemed to stall out last season but it's also possible that's because he was playing out of position at FS.
Now that he has a partner in Jackson whose a true FS and also a guy seems to have the skills to be a QB for he secondary Amos has really come on well. If all of this holds with both of them we'll be better of at Safety than we have been in decade or more. I'm pretty excited about what he and Jackson offer defensively. Now we just need some depth.
