In early May, no one knew just what to expect from fourth-round pick Tarik Cohen, the 5-foot-6 running back out of North Carolina A&T. But the Bears knew early during organized team activities that they had a weapon. Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has found ways to get creative with Cohen and the athletic and energetic rookie has responded by catching a touchdown pass, running for one and throwing for another.
Cohen leads the team in catches (28), has 462 yards from scrimmage through eight games and has been part of four of the Bears’ 12 longest plays from scrimmage so far, including a 70-yard catch in Week 7 against the Panthers.
Defenses have begun to pay greater attention to Cohen. And in October he averaged only 2.0 yards on his 24 carries. The Bears now must figure ways to adjust in the chess game, creating new opportunities for the player coordinator Dowell Loggains calls “the best playmaker we have.”

And I would say that IF Dowell Loggains is a good OC, and IF he's permitted to do so, finding the single most effective ways to use Cohen over these next 8 games will say a lot about his abilities as an OC.
Few teams can win consistently without an occasional "big play" and as it stands he's about it as far as one of those goes.
Howard is a very good RB but lacks home run speed so he can and has often been brought down by pursuit short of a TD.
There isn't a WR who strikes fear in defenses and forces them to defend against a long TD pass so "big plays" will have to come from those who can make them and Cohen is about it as far as I can see. One play we used very effectively back in the '80s was a short shovel pass almost like a draw play to Dennis Gentry who was similar in size to Cohen. I'd like to see Loggains dig that one up again along with some well designed screen passes to get the ball to Cohen in space.
I don't know what to make of Cohen. Week 1 he looked explosive, then he faded and has become less and less of a menacing factor. It's hard to tell if his issues are his greedy play style, the lack of play-makers on offense to create uncertainty which affects his ability to get favorable looks, or the way he's being used. He could be a jack of all trades and a master of none in a league that demands its players be a master of something.
I think the verdict on Cohen isn't out yet and while it's trendy to blame the Log for his lack of creativity, I think there's a lot happening and a bunch of the blame falls on Cohen.
Hope he shows some consistency in the second half of the season. We'll see.

I figure he's a 4th round rookie, and understandably is a work in progress at this stage. We are not seeing a finished product here. I hope he ends up being a nice complimentary RB in future seasons. I think he might be.

When we get some WR's that teams have to defend against I think you'll see Cohen become more explosive. It might also help if the OC was able to disguise what he wants to do. His playcalling is very predictiable.
