The Patriots drafted Chandler Jones at 20 or so right after we blew our pick on Shea.
Would I rather be picking at 7 instead of 17? Of course.
The two biggest, most obvious needs the team is going to finish this season with are OLB and WR. WR can be attended to, at least partially, in FA. Pass rushing OLBs rarely hit FA unless they’re mediocre and/or over the hill. I also think you have a better chance of getting a quality WR in the 2nd then you do a pass rusher.
Im not advocating drafting purely based on position but just taking into account relative value and scarcity. If a talented prospect who’s a good fit is there, I want Pace to pull the trigger on OLB in the 1st round.
If we were getting a lower pick because we were developing Trubisky, that would be one thing but it seems to me it is just for Fox to keep his job. T is not getting any better IMO. I want to see if something changes after they bye. Otherwise, this year will be a waste. He's not even getting practice reps.

Maybe I set the bar too low at this early point, BIH. But I figure he's only played 4 games. And he's only started 13 college games since high school. I don't expect much immediate improvement. I do believe there is value in him getting experience leading the offense this year, and I expect he will show incremental improvement over these 8 games. I loved what Sitton shared about Trubisky taking charge and already being a strong leader. That tells us he is growing into the position - something that never would have happened this year if he was just some fuzz-faced backup carrying the clipboard on the sideline. He is in real games being a real leader of the offense. And even though this is a tough season, that too can be a learning experience for a young QB. Life for a franchise QB in the NFL isn't a cakewalk. Next season, with some NFL starting experience under his belt, and better talent on offense, he will be in a good situation... maybe like Goff this year (people were calling him a bust last year, and now he's thriving).

I guess I look at it the other way JABF. From my experience, the bigger learning gap you have the faster you learn. Then as your knowledge gap closes, you don't learn as fast any more (because you have less to learn). I am one of those few blessed people that never learns anything so I always have a lot to learn! But that's another story...
So I actually expect to see growth IN SOME PARAMETER in every early game. I just don't though. At best, it is even. That is a red flag for me. I don;t know where to place the red flag, but it's a red flag. At this point, I am not laying it at T's feet because I see enough to still believe that he CAN get better. I just honestly think he is not being groomed very well. That is despite proven rock stars like Loggains, GLennon, Sanchex and Fox mentoring him.
