I think the ongoing struggle with Bullard is getting him to play a bit more under control which goes against his natural instincts to get into the backfield and blow plays up. He's added the weight he needed but so far Unrein plays in the scheme better and he's upped his play this year as well.
It's nice having both of them since their styles are different. Unrein is the hole plugger type who plays his assignments well but never makes many impact plays and Bullard is the guy who can make those big stops for lass and bring pressure. Wish we had had as much depth at OLB as we have on the DL.

I forgot about Coward as a future NT backup. I guess he is on the PS? It would be great to have Bullard become the starter and then have Unrein, Robertson, and Coward as quality backups with the skill to vary up the schemes. As far as OLB, yeah it has become a weakness. I am gonna do a week 10/11 mock switching the 1st draft pick to an edge rusher. I am dropping Ansah from thr FA wish list. Better to go young with upside.
Bullard is a guy that should just be getting comfortable with his role. He is being asked to play in a way completely different than his college game. Dude is a three year project imo, so any early returns have been welcome.

I’ll look forward to that. The Bears need 1 OLB at minimum and very likely two. Quality edge rushers are very rarely available in FA. That’s why Ryan Pace needs to have a damn good reason to NOT draft a rushbacker in the 1st round. Like....I’m gonna want to punch him in the face if he doesn’t.

Gotta hope we're in a spot to get one. The more we win the lower the odds of that get.

Like Soul said, the more we win the lower we go in the draft position. But I think we can get a good edge rusher in the 2nd round. Who knows we might still do a trade back and grab another 2nd.

yeah, but the silver lining is that we are winning for a good cause. To try and keep Fox here. So getting a lower pick will be worth it. Not.
And the added bonus is we are teaching our QB to play conservative football and there will be no one in the league that will be able to hand over a ball better than T! His accuracy on handoffs has been stellar. He has not had a drop in a long time. His accuracy on passes.... not so much but passing is no longer his thing so it doesn't matter.

Beginning to wonder if playing poker with Fox whether he'll raise on anything less than a full house or four of a kind.

The Patriots drafted Chandler Jones at 20 or so right after we blew our pick on Shea.
Would I rather be picking at 7 instead of 17? Of course.
The two biggest, most obvious needs the team is going to finish this season with are OLB and WR. WR can be attended to, at least partially, in FA. Pass rushing OLBs rarely hit FA unless they’re mediocre and/or over the hill. I also think you have a better chance of getting a quality WR in the 2nd then you do a pass rusher.
Im not advocating drafting purely based on position but just taking into account relative value and scarcity. If a talented prospect who’s a good fit is there, I want Pace to pull the trigger on OLB in the 1st round.

If we were getting a lower pick because we were developing Trubisky, that would be one thing but it seems to me it is just for Fox to keep his job. T is not getting any better IMO. I want to see if something changes after they bye. Otherwise, this year will be a waste. He's not even getting practice reps.
