How hard is it for Trubisky to learn a pro offense?

Jay was warm poo today, JABF.  He led a good first drive and then threw a pick in the EZ.  Later he had a classic Cutler moment we have seen so many times before--held ball too long and too low leading to a strip sack (Miami recovered it).  Dolphins got shut out and Cutler struggled Last week too.  It's early still but so far looks like same old Jay to me.

Im not here to hate on Cutler.  He's clearly a better QB than Glennon.  Who isn't?  Seriously, can anyone here name a single current NFL starter on 31 other teams who is WORSE than Glennon?  

Im not upset Pace chose to move on from Cutler.  It was due, probably overdue.  But Glennon?  For $18m guaranteed?  We had Hoyer on the roster and he had played about as well as you ask a "game manager" QB.  He would have stayed for way less.  Pace thought Glennon would be a substantial upgrade and obviously massively misjudged his level of ability and fit for this team.

I'm really losing confidence in Pace.  Keeping Fox is looking more and more like a huge mistake.  And the Glennon signing (and starting) decision along with the White pick are two huge personnel busts and screw ups.

Keeping both Fox and Cutler was never an option so there's no use pretending it ever was.  It was time to move on from Jay and equally time for him to move on with his career elsewhere as well.  It was not a good situation here for anyone.

The problem as I see it is much like that with Marshall and Forte it was incumbent on Pace to find a replacement at least as good or close enough to it as those he replaced.  Whether White had stayed healthy or not he's no Brandon Marshall or never would be.  Not even close.  They're two very different types of receiver. So that was miss number one.

Jeremy Langford may have shown a little of the open field ability of Matt Forte but his problem was he could seldom get into the open field.  Matt was an instinctive runner who was capable of gaining yardage on his own while Langford was not.  So that was miss number two but the drafting of Howard may bail him out of that.......maybe.

So now we're down to Glennon and whatever possessed Pace and his staff to think Glennon could even come close to being a decent bridge QB for Trubisky to learn behind is beyond me.  Nothing in his stats or any of the game vids I watched said he was anymore than what he is.  A guy who is functional in a very simple system provided he has protection and limited options.  That all you can ever expect from a backup which is what he is and maybe not even a good one.

So why in the bloody hell did Pace pay for him what he did, then install him as a starter before we even saw what Trubisky could do, and then continue to insist there be no QB competition even after it was pretty obvious who'd win it, and even now insist on adhering to a plan that isn't even close to working?  The ONLY reason I can come up with is GMcC assured him in January his job was safe as long as he kept Fox on.

Nothing else seems to make a whole lot of sense and since most prefer to blame Fox anyway why not just let your lame duck coach take the heat.  He will for now but eventually Pace is gonna be asked to explain this "plan" of his again and Fox won't be around to defer the criticism to.  By sticking with Glennon it would appear they've thrown in the towel this season and soon the rest of the team will as well just as happened under Trestman.

I'm sorry but I can't by the excuse of it taking more time to learn a pro style offense when it's quite obvious even Glennon hasn't learned this one after 3 previous seasons and one in which he started 13 games.  That was his rookie year and he was far better then than he is now. So is it him or this POS offense Fox insists on running?  If it's the latter then spare us these rinse and repeat games and at least try Sanchez if they don't want to risk Trubisky under Fox.

I really don't have an answer either I just know this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen from the Bears and they've had to go some now to overcome some of the stuff I've seen over the past 30 years.

I had no idea.  And the article makes a good point, in that the QB needs to have such a rock-solid grasp of the offense that he instantly knows if people are set up correctly - he's "The Guy" who is responsible for knowing not only 1 position's role on every play but also the others on offense.  He dead-bang has to KNOW the offense to make split second decisions realtime.  

If Trubisky doesn't have that depth of knowledge, then putting him out there - and without credible NFL level receivers - probably won't end up in some miracle change to our offense.  Yet the fan base will be calling Trubisky a bust if he doesn't look great right out of the chute.  Can't you just see it?  They were booing him at that Bulls basketball game before he even took his 1st snap here.  I can't imagine how they will react if we put him out there with THIS offense and he doesn't shine right out of the chute.  It won't be pretty as far as the fans reaction.

That's my gut feeling too.  I keep thinking two things.  This OL can give him decent protection.  And he gets the ball out really quick with good pocket presence when he feels pressure.  I'm guessing that he may look very rough this season, but every play will be priceless experience for him - to help NEXT year.  If we have a run first offense, and not get pass happy, and Loggains can tailor the plays to help Mitch - then I'm hoping the move to T will be good for him and the team.  I don't expect much as far as the win/loss record this year.  But in a sense it's all the more reason to let this be a training year invested in Trubisky's development.  They didn't overload the guy in pre-season.  Maybe this could, in a sense, be like an extended training camp for Mitch.  LOL, I know people here may scream about that thought.  But hey, it is a lost season I think no matter what they do.  Might as well invest in Mitch here and get SOMETHING good out of this season.
