It's no secret, but I love Lamarr Houston. The dude has worked extremely hard to come back from the season ending ACL tear he suffered two years ago. Love what he brings off the edge on the field both as a run defender and as a pass rusher but more than that, I love his passion for the game. The dude LOVES football and he has that nasty 'I'm going to rip your face off' mentality every snap he takes.
I've never had anything against him , he just had a freak injury happen to him ... I'm sure he wasn't 'expecting' something that weird to happen to him . All I can say is he produced in Oakland and he's had his 2yrs to get back to 100% , and was doing good things towards the end of last season , so hopefully he resumes his old self today ( and the rest of the season ) .
Houston was the first Bears on the field before the game, but the last OLB to be put into the game... Apparently, Fangio is bi-polar. Three days ago or so he says Floyd was/is in poor condition and has a lot to learn yet when Sunday hits he's recording more snaps than Houston OR Young. I would wager that Houston saw fewer than 20% of the snaps on defense today yet had the most impact of any OLB on the team. I just don't fucking understand what Fangio and Fox were thinking there.
Although the defense didn't look horrible after that early pick by Porter there were few if any real impact plays. We were very vanilla and overly conservative on both sides of the ball and it's a bit unlike Fangio to be that way.
No blitzing to speak of and no stunts on pass rushes? All in all it looked more like how I'd expect us to play in a preseason game and in reality that about as good as they looked today. Like you'd expect them to look by the 3rd preseason game.
My take on it is this team is so far behind where it needs to be in development that I have to wonder WFT they've been doing since the end of July because they aren't even ready to play a good team and a really great team would have destroyed them today.
