Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans: Who Has the Advantage? by Clyde Speller 15 hours ago
Finally, the start of the season is upon us, and for many Chicago Bears fans, optimism is in the air. For the first time since 2009, the Bears will start their season on the road when they face the Houston Texans. Even going into Week 1, Chicago will already have to deal with setbacks that could prevent them from getting out of the starting blocks as fast as possible to begin this year’s campaign. Houston’s defense is one of the best in the NFL, and should continue to prove so on Sunday. But, let’s not forget that Chicago has some new faces on defense as well, and should improve from last season. Let’s take a look across the board and see which team has the upper hand.
Let's just say the ol' Clyde here doesn't give our Bears much of a shot at winning this one.
The only match up he feels favors the Bears is our run defense again their run offense. Otherwise they dominate all of the other matchups. While I can't disagree on paper this is also that kind of first game where a few breaks or lucky bounces of the ball could produce and unexpected upset.
Let's hope Houston comes into this more than a little over confident and that our offense is really much more capable that it appeared to be in the preseason. If we ca score 24 points or more we have a good shot of winning this one even on the road.
Yeah, you never know what's gonna happen in a season opener. Could be an upset. Like that old cliche, "that's why they go ahead and play the games" because of that any given Sunday thing.

Bears’ Pass Offense vs. Texans’ Pass Defense (He picked the Texans) Gotta agree on paper. Houston gave up the third fewest passing yards per game last year with an avg YPG of 210.4. Football Outsiders had them ranked in as 7th against the pass. One thing to watch is the secondary matchups. Houston has a violent pass rush and can get pressure with just four rushers allowing them to play extra men in coverage however, Houston doesn't have a loaded secondary and there will be matchups to exploit. Even if White doesn't play AJ, Royal, and Meredith should be able to challenge the secondary. I think the Texans have the adv. here but it's not as gaping as Clyde presents it.
Bears’ Run Offense vs. Texans’ Run Defense (He Picked the Texans) Again, I need to agree. Houston ranked 10th last year in YPG via rush and Football Outsiders ranks them at 13th. Houston gave up an average of 99 yards per game last year on the ground and Chicago has yet to prove they can get anything going with their young backfield. Can't buffer this advantage. The Bears might have some tricks up their sleeve, but coming into the game this is clearly a Houston adv.
Texans’ Pass Offense vs. Bears’ Pass Defense (He Picked the Texans) I disagree here. On paper this is not a Houston advantage. Hopkins is a beast but none of their other receivers have shown shit in the reg. season - they're all green. Fangio is going to design coverage schemes to put his secondary players in advantageous situations in which they can prey on the youthful WRs. Additionally, Young is going to feast on the backup LT. As long as the game is close or favoring the Bears, watch for Fangio to blitz the **** out of Brocky boy and try to rattle him. Overall, the Texan's offensive line is shaky and they will be exposed. Fangio and Fox are DB tacticians (one of the reasons they ranked so well last year against the pass despite not having the personnel). They'll have a plan. I give the Bears a slight adv. here.
Texans’ Run Offense vs. Bears’ Run Defense (He Picked the Bears) I agree. Lamar Miller is a journeyman back and the Bears have a revamped front 7 that's gonna limit his yardage.
Texans’ Run STeams vs. Bears’ Steams (He Picked the Texans) I agree. Until the Bears can show they're competent in STeams, I believe every team in the NFL has better STeams than us. Rodgers is a fucktard.
Texans coaches vs Bears coaches (He Picked the Texans) Fox has a better coaching staff through and through than the Texans. Fox himself is a better coach the O'Brien. This is a bullshit pick.
Overall: I gotta agree. The Texans have the advantage but I don't think it's as skewed as ole Clyde presents it as.

I actually agree with all his picks except the coaches. If we can put pressure on the pass and stop the ball from going out, sure we have the pick there, but when considering our whole pass defense, I think our secondary is weak, so I agree that the Texans have the advantage.
As far as coaches go, I agree that Fox is better than O'Brian, I think Fangio is one of the best, but Loggains has shown me nothing. I think the Bears are better here, but it's not a runaway IMO.
