While many of us were enjoying our Labor Day holiday on Monday, the Chicago Bears were busy preparing for Sunday’s season opener at the Houston Texans.
One of the biggest concerns heading into to Week 1 is the health of the Bears secondary so when Tracy Porter, Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan all participated in Monday’s practice, you can imagine that the Bears coaching staff felt much better.
Porter, who suffered a concussion during the Bears third preseason game on August 27, has been cleared for full participation. The veteran defensive back said he is certain that he will play against the Texans.
Fuller’s recovery from his arthroscopic knee surgery on August 14 seems to be about a week ahead of schedule. It is uncertain whether or not Fuller will play on Sunday, but he told reporters that is his goal.
Callahan missed the final three preseason games with a hamstring injury. The Bears played it safe with their nickelback and it appears that he will be ready to go for Week 1.
Outstanding. I really do believe that our large volume of injuries had to do with coaches and training staff being overly cautious with tweaks/owies. I could be wrong, but that's kind of what I'm reading into many of these guys coming back just before the opener.

Except for McPhee that would seem to be the case. I guess it paid off as far as the CB position goes since it gave them time to evaluate the rookies and second year guys and it looks like we ended up keeping two good one and stowed a third on the PS.
We may not have a lot of experienced depth in the secondary but we aren't without some players who've shown some talent back there. This kid Leblanc we picked up in waivers from NE looks like he has some decent skills as NB or small Safety as well.
