Last season Jay was ranked 28th in the NFL in YPG passing and also QB passer rating (LINK).
Will he be better, worse or about the same (ranked 28th) this season? This will be a fun thread to re-visit at the end of the season, and see how close we came.
To be honest, im shocked that he was only 28th, my feeling last year, without looking at the stats was that hes somewhere in the middle of the pack, lets say 15th, 16th...
MEH. You gotta subtract the QBs with fewer than 200 passes for this to mean something. The QBR number, in particular, is so distorted with those players in there. Subtracting the QBs with fewer than 200 passing attempts, Jay Cutler had the 15th highest QBR of QBs and ranks 22nd in yards per game.
Regardless of the backup QBs and 5 pass QBs, Jay Cutler will be higher than 28th next year. That's easy.
Honestly i couldnt care less how many YPG he has, if he cuts down the mistakes and they can run the ball effectively then he could throw for 400 yards or 150 yards and play well regardless.
Rodgers ranked 30th in YPG and Rivers ranked 4th, which speaks volumes in itself.

I'm always expecting better from Jay but I'm always getting worse from him. He has done the same boneheaded mistakes since he's gotten into this league. Crazy good arm great prototypical size just the elevator keeps falling short of the penthouse suites.

Exactly. There are so many determiners to that number. QBR isn't the gold standard BUT it's probably the best statistical measurement we have easy access to. In that regard, his 94 QBR puts him at 15th in the NFL (when accounting for backups with minimal snaps). 15th is about where he belongs. I think his QBR this year will rise modestly this year.
Glad someone eles saw that. He was not 28th last year in QBR is sounds like 15th, I was pretty sure he was 14th. Maybe in YPG, but I don't feel like looking it up. So will he be better than 28th in QBR, easy. If his main targets are not Mariani, Bellemy, Wilson the odds go up.
My heart wants to say he will do better, but through thick and thin other than a few select years, he has been steadfastedly mediocre. My fear is that this year will be the same.
