Lamarr Houston: The DAWG Barks Back

Lamarr Houston's pretty much written off as a Bear. After suffering two ACL tears in three seasons, one in humiliating fashion, Houston's grinding to get back on the field. General consensus was/is that he'll be cut before the season starts as his salary is not guaranteed, but this DAWG doesn't give up without a fight.
I find that inspiring AND I find it to be the essential mindset for NFL players. Patrick Finley's piece in the Sun Times is all fluff, but a couple of pieces stand out:
Willie Young has this to say: "[coming back from two ACL tears] says a lot about who he is as a man, and it says a lot about what this game means to him...It doesn't get any tougher than that. ANything he deals with from this point on is going to be a cakewalk."
And Lamarr, when asked about the injury, revealed this: ‘‘Instantly, I knew...But it’s something I’m going to overcome, something I’m going to overcome and come back from.
Things happen. This game is a very high-impact game. You can’t get frustrated. Anything can happen any day — it can be practice, it can be in the game. You’ve just gotta keep on dealing with it and work and try to get past it.’’
Again, this is fluff stuff, but I think in the broader sense of the game and the team Pace is building here, it's an indicator of what Pace is trying to grow in the locker room and the culture of the Bears. Say what you want about Houston - injury prone, show off, idiot, ineffective - one thing that is really clear is his DESIRE to play this game and to overcome adversity. That's pretty inspiring. I hope he can get it done this season. We have a very questionable roster of OLBs at the moment (Three aged vets and one second year kid) so it's pretty damn important that Houston comes back.
