I'm far less concerned about whether this kid can play or not than I am about whether this time as a team Pace will do what's needed a far as surrounding him with the coaching and player personnel Trubisky will need in order to succeed. Without that he'll have no more chance than Cutler ever did.

+1 That's basically what Cutler said this week in his interview (an excellent interview I thought). Jay was pretty classy in what he had to say. He didn't throw anyone under the bus. He didn't whine or complain about how everything turned out for his NFL career. He was very positive in his comments. But he did say pretty much what you put in your post there. If teams fail to surround a young QB with enough talent, then the QB will not do well. He also said that the Bears should not start Trubisky until he is ready - even if the team falters under Glennon. I don't know if you read that interview, Soul, but I thought it was excellent. Hopefully the Bears give Trubisky the coaching, surrounding talent - and the time to develop a bit, before they start him.

It's never been Cutler's way to whine or blame others and in that respect his treatment by some fans and the media has been totally unjustified. I saw one article the other day that began with saying how much of a failure Cutler had been because he only led the Bears to one playoff appearance like somehow that was all on Cutler and not on Lovie's infamous late season collapses or this abortion of a football team we've had for the past four years. How does the most prolific passer in team history get labeled a failure unless somehow the team surrounding him failed even more that he did? I've had enough of that garbage.
I thought Pace should have waited another year and continued what he and Fox are finally being allowed to call a "rebuild" before investing in his QB. But I'm not unhappy with Trubisky either. Way back in January I posted my preference for him over any other rookie QB if we actually decided to draft one. The potential to be a top NFL QB is there but then it was with Cutler as well and for 8 seasons we mishandled that. If we do that again and expect different results that will be the Bears unique form of offensive insanity all over again. You can't win consistently without a top shelf QB but he's still the gravy on top of a high caliber meat and potatoes OL and DL and he needs top shelf skill players around him as well.
If Pace fails to check all of those other boxes too all we'll end up with eventually is Cutler v2.0. Trubisky is already being compared to him in some ways and I can see that as well. Pace rolled the dice big time in this draft and now his career will depend heavily on how Trubisky pans out. What he spent to get him is secondary to what he got for his money. Over the next three years Pace and the Bears will sink or swim on the back of this pick and how well Trubisky is supported.

I agree with what you are saying but I honestly think that Pace has built a pretty strong roster already. If you compare what we have now to the mess he inherited it is a night and comparison.

I don't think it can be argued that we have the best 3-13 roster in the league.
