27 Defensive players and 23 offensive players means a lot of moves / some moves are bouts to happen. They're gonna need to trim up the DBs a bit - I envision Demontre Hurst and Chris Prosinski or Houston-Carson are gonna be waived to add a TE or an OL.
Somewhat of a surprising mix so my guess is it won't stay this way. Can't say that I agree with all of it but then by Monday, and then again next week after game one, it will look even different.
Looks about right. Im so excited for this season. Not because we are going to be SB champions, but more because it will be really interesting to see how our Oline is going to handel the season. If they do well, then our Oline is set for the next years to come, minus the center because Grasu is still questionmark, but if Whitehair and Leno can lock down left side, and Massie can play an average RT, then **** yea.
Our frontseven is gonna be juicy to watch. Im so excited to see what this group can do, it looks so much better on paper. Lets hope the live up the expectations. Bullard, Floyd, Goldman, I cant wait to see these guys in action. Football is soon here and life is goooooooooooooood!
Not a ton of surprises to the week 1 depth chart though the fact that 0 rookies are starting this week is noteworthy. Some will say this is a problem, and in some ways it is, but the benefit is that the top of our depth chart is 'solid.' When you look at our starting players (not depth but starters) this team looks competitive other than in the defensive backfield - and I'm willing to say that even looks average.
As a result, we've begun to fill in the depth with rookie acquisitions and that bodes well especially on the defensive side of the ball.
THe biggest 'surprise' to me with this week 1 depth chart is the listing of Jones as ILB. This is noteworthy because Trevathan is 'injury prone' due to his multiple issues with his knees. Jones is backing him up. I feel more comfortable with that move than having Kwiatkoski serving as Trevathan's depth. Jones is versatile and can play in multiple fronts AND serves as a valuable STeams player.
One other noteworthy piece is the placement of Kush as the backup GUARD rather than center. I don't know a lot about Kush, but I thought he was a center...
I'm excited to see them on the field and hopeful we get some of the close games falling in our favor this year. Regarding the roster, I am surprised at how Sutton is sticking this year and Ego is most likely not coming back. We will have to see how this falls out.

I've seen Kush listed as both in scouting reports and on the LA roster where he was listed as an OC. But I also think we've reached the point where teams want a backup interior OL to be able to handle both. I think Whitehair and Grasu could both handle either spot after getting some coaching and some practice at it.
I'm glad to see Jones made the roster too. I still think he'll be best as an edge rusher but he's versatile enough to be used at any LB spot and he's a good ST guy too so it was smart to keep him around. Once McPhee returns though one of those LBs might have to go.
Kwiatkoski is more of a pure "Mike" style ILB so I believe he'll back Freeman from now on. Trevathan is the "Jack" ILB and both Jones and actually Anderson seem better fits for that spot and it's one of those two or Acho who may have to give way when McPhee returns.
It seems like a few of the second year guys have stepped up as expected so this year there should be less need to play rookie unless we're hurt a lot. Overall that defense looks much better now and I expect them to make a pretty big leap in their ability to limit scoring.
I was curious to review how this compares with the past 2 season's rosters. Man, we've had a ton of change. I feel we are moving in the right direction and getting better. Only time will tell though.
Looking over those old rosters, it reminded me of how many key players got injured the last two years. I realize injuries happen to all teams every year, but hopefully it won't be at the level of the past 2 seasons. It just guts a team that has thin depth.
But we do seem to have slightly better depth going into this season too. What do you guys think about our depth overall? I know we're thin at some positions.
