"We don't know what the hell they were doing," said an executive from one team that is routinely in the postseason. "It's all anyone is talking about. It's really bad between Pace and Fox. Fox is fuming about being left in the dark on the trade (for Trubisky). I don't know anyone who likes their draft. From the first pick on, we can't figure out what they were doing. Go back and look at how many small-school kids they took. People around the league are shocked. It's really bad between Pace and Fox." An executive from another team noted: "Either the Bears know something no one else in the league knows, or that draft just got a lot of people fired only they don't know it yet."
Except...all the articles refer back to the same story. No one is adding new information. Its just one writer rewriting what another writer wrote and adding their own conclusions. Of course then they get referred to by a third writer who accepts their conclusions and builds on top.
I'm not saying the original point is wrong just that the buzz its generating is all self-referencing.

In fact, I dont know what THESE guys are talking about! According to various sorces, we took the best QB in the draft, top-5 TE and top-10 S. So, what are we really talking about here? A pile of c*ap
Media BULLS**T is all i see...same goes for all the articles about the Bears and Trubisky.
I have yet to see an article bash the Texans or KC for trading away their 2018 1st round picks to get an arguably equal Qbs in terms of where the experts were ranking them.

I found the same trade in 1998 between the Chargers and the Cardinals (swapping #2 and #3 in the first round ... for a QB). We paid a whole lot less that the Chargers did (Their 2nd round pick as well as the next years 1st round pick).

They are complaining that the Bears should have somehow known that SF didn't want to risk Thomas and if they were they weren't willing to drop beyond 12. There is in fact 0 way for Pace to know that. All he can know is who is calling them, and that those same teams are likely calling SF with similar offers.
SF called them and said hey the pick is yours, but we need an extra 4th. Pace was okay w/that.

Agree 100% and the highlighted area is what i keep arguing. Pace never showed his cards as to who he was picking @ #3 so i'm sure he had the same teams calling him that were calling SF...it's kind of idiotic to think otherwise imo lol

My guess the only people are upset about this are fans of the teams that wanted Mitch.
I looked up what I could find about the whole Pace v Fox thing. It all boils down to an appearance Chris Mortensen did on NFL insiders where he said:
“More than 30 days ago, I heard that Ryan Pace, the general manager, and George McCaskey, the chairman of the Bears, had decided they were going to take their top quarterback, who was Mitchell Trubisky. But they were not going to tell anybody. They were not going to tell their coaching staff.
My understanding is John Fox, the head coach, wasn’t informed until about an hour and 25 minutes before this pick.”
Thats it. No source, no 'I talked to someone at HH.." nothing.
From there it snowballed. First DJ Durkin (theatletic) put out a story quoting Mortensen, then Kevin Siefert (espn) did the same thing--both quoting Mortensen--they added nothing of substance.
From there bleacherreport, deadspin and everyone else put out their story sourcing Mortensen and Siefert.
Mortensen tried to cover himself later by tweeting this:
John Fox very involved in #Bears draft process w Mitch Trubisky. Decision crystallized for GM R. Pace as scenarios played out early eve.
12:26 PM - 28 Apr 2017
Do I think Pace and Fox are in a lifelong relationship? Nope. I think Fox was brought on to counter Pace's youth and to provide the "Fox Second Year Bump. (c)" Didn't work and the needle is tilting back toward Pace. And of course I am using my MSU degree because none of this has ever leaked from multiple sources.
There are no multiple sources, just multiple stories based on one source.
According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Bears GM did not tell Fox or his coaching staff that the team would draft quarterback Mitchell Trubisky until 90 minutes before the action started.
It was on NFL Insiders:
“More than 30 days ago, I heard that Ryan Pace, the general manager, and George McCaskey, the chairman of the Bears, had decided they were going to take their top quarterback, who was Mitchell Trubisky. But they were not going to tell anybody. They were not going to tell their coaching staff.

Of course he later tweeted this:

2nd reference:
D.J. Durkin of The Athletic then expanded on his comments. It seems the decision to take Trubisky was made back in March in an agreement between Pace and chairman George McCaskey.
If you read Durkin’s tweets, he’s referencing Mortensen.
Bleacher Report put out their story in a tweet:
Bleacher Report @bleacherreport Apr 28
John Fox did not know of Bears' plan to draft Trubisky until just hours before draft (via @mortreport, @seifertespn) ble.ac/2ptKfpk
Note the references? Mortenson and Seifert
Here is the seifert tweet:
Kevin Seifert @seifertespn Apr 28
Wow. Per @mortreport, even @chicagobears coach John Fox didn’t know about plan to draft QB Mitchell Trubisky until a couple hours before.
Sieferts source? The Mortenson leak.
So already you have Durkin (Theathletic), Seifert, Bleacherreport, and sportsmockery all writing stories based on one tweet from Mortensen.
Except...all the articles refer back to the same story. No one is adding new information. Its just one writer rewriting what another writer wrote and adding their own conclusions. Of course then they get referred to by a third writer who accepts their conclusions and builds on top.

Anytime the story directly quotes an "Unnamed Executive" or anonymous source I automatically don't believe it.
