Aaron Donald... still crying about that once a week, at night usually. He went right in front of us, right?
Ha ha. Try a glass of warm milk. You'll sleep like a baby. (ugh)
Couple of picks I think but I recall a lot of other members (DaBears at that time) saying he was too small and we shouldn't draft him. Well we never got the chance and ended up with Fuller. Same bunch that figured we should take Danny Shelton as a NT. LOLOL
I'm split. I wanted Aaron. But I also wanted Shelton.

Kind of an interesting dynamic when you think of it. The Bears chose Kevin White over Danny Shelton. I was a big fan of that move - it was the first time in recent memory I've ever predicted a 1st round draft pick BUT Shelton, up to this point and as shitty as he looks, has done more in the NFL than White. Eddie Goldman, who most compare the Shelton pick to, has definitely been the wiser NT choice though.
In regards to Aaron Donald, I'm not so sure Mel Tucker would have been effective with him. He is a beast in STL/LA but is fates were flipped and he went with the loser Bears of 2015, a lot of scenarios could have played out. Still, considering the trajectory of Donald's and Fuller's careers, we certainly seem to have lost that draft.

I wanted both as well.
If Donald can maintain his level of play for 4 - 6 years, he may be a slam dunk for the HOF.
But if you compare Shelton's numbers with Goldman's, I am sure we got the better NT. Goldmam had 4.5 sacks, 16 tackles and 6 assists in 15 games (12 games started).
Shelton had 0 sacks 17 tackles and 16 assists in 16 games (16 started).
This will probably appear elsewhere on the board but I figured I'd keep it as a part of the trade thread as I don't think it deserves its own thread BUT the Packers released or are rumored to be shopping or releasing 3x Pro-Bowl OG Josh Sitton. Don't know how he'd fit with what The Log wants to do on offense but he certainly could be a step up from Silatolu based on how shitty he played in the pre-season.
I don't think Pace will trade for him unless he plans to start him. His salary is $5.9 mil and he's not gonna pay that to a backup. I'd love to see if we can sign him if they release him though.

Good find belly!
It's speculative BUT just saw this while scrolling through my twitter feed trying to get the 53 man roster news!

I dunno and don't care. If he fits with what the Log wants to do, sign him and start him ahead of Whitehair. Injuries to OL are common in the regular season (look at Long). Having Sitton on the active roster would give us strong depth and flexibility. Whitehair could back him up at LG and, in the event Long goes down again this season, Sitton could slide over to RG and Whitehair could come in (more prepared) and take over the LG spot.

I like Sutton, but he does not fit the scheme. You'll see him, if he's a bear, primarily on goal line. he gets penetration 'cause he's an athlete and often just beats opposing guys with his first step. his 6'0" height helps him get under guys imo and he could stunt in a 4-3 or four man front nickle and dime (he had more than one pass rush move in college). I think he's best as a sub guy, 'cause in college he looked really streaky. Sometimes that's work ethic, but I just think a 300 pound guy at 6' is going to get tired playing a lot of snaps- especially if his game is about beating you with agility and speed.
Ego can play DE on this team but he doesn't hold up in the middle as a NT. I didn't like the pick, but he is another guy that might look better in four man fronts.
I actually think the bears sign Swamp Thing to the 53 man roster if they can move any of these guys.
I love Meredith but really thought they'd put him on PS, or at least he'd be the guy they put on waivers over Braverman. NFL always wants quick guys, and Braverman fits that bill. I know Mariani did everything he was asked to do, but I'm happy he's gone even if it means Royal might stick.

Yeah but I bet your glad we took Goldman now. I always though Shelton was no more than a "space eater". I like Goldman game much better.

yeah. It looked to me fairly early on that at the very least we had not gotten a very much worse player than Shelton and possibly a better one. We did great with Goldman. He is better than Shelton.
