It's way too early to make season predictions but I feel like I have to set my feet in concrete. If Fox wants to save his job and Pace wants to save his credibility, the Bears have to go at least 8-8. They're going to do everything they can this offseason to make that happen personnel wise.

You set your own feet in concrete? I've never heard that before. Usually, "da boys" come round and do that. Do they give you a discount if you do the concrete work first?
Not bitter gbph. Simply factual. But let's look at what you believe and how it matches with facts.
1) Gilmore was very interested in coming to Chicago but said he was disappointed their offer didn't even come close. So.......the Pats for more money or the Bears for less money what should I do, what should I do.
2) Bouye I can't say more than it was reported we were pursuing him and who did he sign with? The Jags. Since they draft just one pick after we do it can't be because he wanted to go with an immediate winner. So what's left? Money?
3) AJ was staying in Chicago to work out which most took as a good sign that he would like to stay. If Philly could get him for $9.5 mil guaranteed, far less than the cost of last years tag, and another $4.5 mil in ULTBE incentives how is it that we couldn't come up with deal that could compete? It was suggested often enough.
Maybe some of these guys Pace signed pan out and maybe they don't but there's a reason why these guys aren't getting top dollar or they're agreeing to one year deals. They aren't in huge demand and no matter where they'd like to play a contract is a paycheck. Time will tell whether they're any better than who they replace.
Maybe I'm just asking questions I think should be asked or pointing what I believe from what I've read or listened to. I do that a bit especially when I read an awful lot of guys last fall posting about how the 2017 lacked talent and we needed to replace so and so or we should go after whats his name in FA because we have so much cap room.
Then UFA begins and once again all of the trophy guys who stack up as sure difference makers waved to us and our offers as they signed elsewhere and again we sign mucho 2nd and 3rd tier talent that's nice to have for experience or depth but lack impact level talent so they won't win you anymore games than some you already have.
So it's not bitterness it's more like amusement that anyone would keep buying into their malarkey tinged with a bit of sarcasm thrown in for free.
You talk about Facts....
like the fact that Gilmore got paid like a Top5 CB from a contending Team. How should another Team compete with this?
like the fact Bouye never wanted to leave the AFC south and didn't wanted to sign with us? That's on Pace? Really?
like the fact that Alshon just simply refused to extend his contract with us to sign a 1 year deal with the Eagles. He got more term and Money offered by the Queens and he still choosed Philly.
It's just a fact that Pace tried and even offered more than reasonable, yet those guys didn't want to sign with us.
Yes, that's now a fact as well. So is it reasonable to ask why? Some years ago we often read how UFAs wanted to play for the Bears and now that trend seems to have reversed itself big time. I've given some of my reason so why do you think this is happening?
Is it simply the money? The cap has risen dramatically over the past few years and did again this year. What was top 5 money in 2015 is not top 5 money in 2017. If you want to sign the top guys it's pretty much expected at least some will get top 5 money in today's dollars and those deals will keep increasing in value because the cap increases.
That's just the basic economics of NFL UFA. If you want top players at their respective positions you have to consider paying top dollar and it seems we don't want to do that. If we refuse to play at that level then we will not sign impact type UFAs. It's pretty much that simple. With few exceptions money talks with these guys and their agents.
I'm not sitting in judgement of Pace alone as much as I am the entire Bears organization and I remain critical of their business plan based on decades old thinking. That and the fact that their story never changes. It's always patience. Give us more time. Or a HC who tells fans and the media he sees progress one day and then turns around and says we have a lot of work to do the next all while his team is regressing badly. Some plan.
Are you familiar with a Mobius Band?
A Möbius strip made with a piece of paper and tape. If an ant were to crawl along the length of this strip, it would return to its starting point having traversed the entire length of the strip (on both sides of the original paper) without ever crossing an edge.
This is how I see the Bears gbph. A continuous loop of rebuilding with no beginning and no end just a loop they operate on much like a hamster on a treadmill thinking it may actually be getting him somewhere. I know not everyone agrees with this thinking but lacking any progress or any kind of signs of where this all began and where it will all end what would you choose to believe?

You always do the concrete work first. Some guys in Mexico say they can handle any concrete job big or small and walls or boots.

I know the Prices go up and the Cap is rising, but even with this increase I don't see why Gilmore and Bouye are that much better and more worth than what they already signed for. compared to Cooper, I think I'm happy with it.
Reasons? We were bad and have unsolved Coaching future. Why would you want to sign here?

Yes, or at least in part which goes back to my question why is Fox still here? Once again I see this as part of the systemic problem that begins at the top.
The McCaskeys were mightily embarrassed by the team and it's goings on under Emery and Trestman yet it was them along with Ted Phillips who hired Emery. Former Bears scout and friend of the family right? Wasn't that the story?
So Emery and Trestman are fired, Mama Bears is pissed, and we get a promise this whole organization is turning over a new leaf. Did they? Nope they hired Pace and they hired Fox insisting again they didn't need a top NFL Exec to run the show and make those decisions. After all Ernie Accorsi helped and recommended these guys and we can hire people better than anyone else. Just look at our past record and you'll see. Sounds like a politician I know.
Well thank you Ernie Accorsi. Just don't be shocked if I don't invite you to my next Bears football watching party.
So what other NFL teams hires a recently fired HC with a rep for gross manipulation and a hard headed "I do it my way" attitude as a turn around specialist and when he not only can't pull off a turn around he plunders the roster and actually regresses the team so badly he's become the second losingest HC in Bears history in just two seasons. What other NFL team says that's OK and keeps him on? Few to none or at least not those who value winning above their own embarrassment.
That's what it came down to gbph. That and money. They didn't want pay off yet another HC for two years and they were embarrassed to admit they made yet another mistake so the team is hung with Fox for now and Pace has to work his way around that.
You know what this reminds me of?
It's like a guy who divorced his wife two years ago because she was cheating on him then meets the girls of his dreams and marries her. Then on their wedding night he catches her in bed screwing his best man but he silently closes the door and leaves because he's to embarrassed to admit he sucks at picking the right women and doesn't want to go through another divorce right after he paid for a big wedding.
That's how I see the Bears upper management brother.

We are in Agreement that our ownership sucks, we agree on Fox should be fired and that we Need more Talent. We know Teddy Bear won't get fired, we know the McCs make Money and won't sell the Team. We both don't understand why you can be that stupid to Keep your Coach that you will fire in 1 year anyways because of all the known Problems. We have had Close games and we have had injuries but at the end of the day we won't magically become a PO Team with a winning Season. We talk about improving CBs and that Fuller won't start over Prince and Cooper, but we Cry about the missed Talent and Injuries. Something isn't fitting here.
We will lose Close games again and we are going to see Players leaving the field early due to injury. That happens and is part of the game.
I know the Prices go up and the Cap is rising, but even with this increase I don't see why Gilmore and Bouye are that much better and more worth than what they already signed for. compared to Cooper, I think I'm happy with it.
