Bears Keep Quietly Upgrading Secondary With Pro Bowl CB

I would have preferred Pace pony'ing up and getting Gilmore locked down.  He's as close to shutdown corner as you're gonna see hit FA and had multiple good years.  I understand him passing on Bouye since he was a 1-season wonder who didn't take the ball away much and was surrounded by a stellar cast on the Houston D.  I think he got overpaid and will end being like Josh Norman last year--highly touted but disappointing.

Will also say this though--after missing on Gilmore, Pace recovered nicely at CB.  He's shored up the position to the point that we are no longer going into the draft desperate.  Don't want to do that.  It's like going grocery shopping when you're really hungry, bad idea.

I don't see NE overpaying very often. They are sharp. Maybe "the experts" did not have the same value on him that NE did.

We had CB's that proved they weren't starting quality in Fangio's man coverage scheme. Both Cooper and Prince are both starting quality man cover CB's. Prince's problem is health, Cooper's problem is lack of experience and showing flashes instead of consistent production.

But understand Gilmore wasn't worth what he got, that was huge overpay by NE. Bouye wasn't leaving the AFC South, per his own sources.
