My biggest issue with Mike Glennon is his uncanny similarity to Napoleon Dynamite. This comparison cannot be overstated. It should be brought up continuously. I'm glad we have a new subject to ridicule in Chicago. The Smoking Jay crap was getting tired. This won't. There's a wealth of material to mock. Look at the velocity in this throw mother frickers.
I honestly don't care what any reports or numbers say anymore. I only care about how well he performs on the field on game day. Don't turn the ball over and put some long drives together for TDs. Simple as that.
+1 And I'd rather go by what we see at the NFL level. Glennon doesn't have Cutler's arm. But he has plenty of arm to make all of the throws.
I tend to agree, but I think it's fair to question the signing and if Pace will be the guy to use all the data in front of him to truly find us a QB.

watching this video highlight im thinking how awesome a video highlight of Jay Cutler with Bears could be. And im not being sarcastic, he made a bunch of beautiful passes, a couple of outstanding ones to AJ come to mind
Reminds me of the arm length arguments against Whitehair. Guess T-Rex can't play in the NFL because he's got stumps. I would wager velocity is a situational statistic so I'm curious where that number comes from. Is there a drill where they say throw the ball as hard as you can? Are they clocking all throws and finding an avg? Is this on a specific type of route?
Velocity definitely matters on some throws, I'd wager the more important factor is the route timing and chemistry.
Honestly, I would love to know all that, and more, like Brady-Peyton-Roethlisberger-Cutler-Rodgers(you get the picture), but the data only started in 2008.
Tom Brady had a pathetic combine. He sucked in every single metric. But obviously he's one hell of a great QB. I'm not comparing Glennon to TB at all, so don't jump on me for that. My point is that a lot of these combine metrics don't translate to being a great NFL player - or not. IF we wanted the super strong arm guy, well, we already had that guy in Jay Cutler. But we all know there is more to being a solid QB than having the strongest arm.
I like these videos of Tom Brady and his comments on his poor combine (says he had one of the worst Combine performances in its history).
I thought I heard that ball velocity was tested by squating down, then jumping up and throwing the ball while in the air. How many qb's do that in a game?

Jay Cutler made a number of throws like that. I think that's why he's no longer our QB. I bet those balls had some real velocity on them.

I've always been a numbers guy, so this gets me. As much as I love Watson's intangibles, this bothers me. He overall had a great combine, but this seems equivalent to a WR running under a 5.0 40.
My worry isn't about having the best arm, but analyzing if he actually has an arm to succeed.

+1 Cornelius Washington had the best numbers in EVERY category of his combine (for DL).

Looking at that list shows me 2 things: 1. teams should put zero stock in ball velocity score and 2. picking a QB isn't as easy as everyone seems to think (just use your high 1st rd draft pick & you're set), it is extremely tough and rare to be an upper echelon NFL QB and therefore it is extremely tough to pick that guy.

Hilarious! When I read Ric's comment my first thought though was 'Hey that is Tim Tebow's patented throwing motion!'
