If Pace waits until day three to take a QB and Glennon is a bust, I'll be pretty fricking angry. I don't have scouting reports and insider information or a complete understanding of the QBs coming out, so maybe they all really do suck as NFL prospects, but for an organization that's been behind the times with QBs, I really want to see us start working on solving the issue long term. The Glennon move is not a flashy move but I can rationalize a system in which it makes sense - namely if the QB prospects this year are weak (and Pace has really good reasoning for believing that - meaning none better turn out as rookie sensations or he'll lose all confidence with Bears nation) OR Pace feels like his ability to get the QB he wants is jeopardized by teams picking before him. THere are other options but I'm not in those meeting rooms so it's hard to fathom their strategy here.
Let's just hope they have a good strategy. It's easy to say if Pace screws up and Fox screws up they're gone. The crappy thing is that we're stuck with a crappy team. I want them both to succeed. I hope they do.
(1) Fox wanted Cutler gone and had enough weight to get it done. There are rumors that Pace wanted to move on prior to this off-season so I don't think he argued too much.
(2) The Browns with the 1st and 12th picks are screwing things up. If the Brown only had the 1st, they wouldn't be in play for Jimmy G (12th + one of their other 437 draft picks) they would be taking a QB. But because they can draft Garrett + get a QB, its throwing off Pace's planning. Pace isn't sure who will be there @3 and knowing he can't go into the season with Shaw/Barkley/day-2-or-3-rookie he went out and got a QB he knows can start day 1-Glennon.
(3) Now having Glennon on the roster means he doesn't have to pick a QB day 1. He has a starter for at least this season and most likely next. He could still take one @3, but having Glennon plugs the QB hole. More likely than not IMO Pace drafts a defender or trades down for picks+defender.
(4) What about round 2? I think Pace packages picks he got for moving down to go back into round 1 and picks a corner. With the FA S and CB, he adds a rookie S and CB, with Amos/Callahan and the 2016 draft picks as depth. D-backfield is plugged.
(5) Rounds 3-4-5-6-7 goes BPA with an eye toward WR/TE. There will be the DE/DT/NT who falls from round 2 into round 4 before Pace picks him, and the flyer on a Darren Sproules type RB.
(6) There might be a surprise in rounds 6/7, maybe Kelly's nephew the QB whose value was just too great.
(7) I think there will still be 3-4 under the radar signings in FA.
(8) DEF lines up as:
Hicks....Goldman....Bullard
Floyd...Freeman...Trevathan...Young
CB (r)...S (r)...Demps...Prince
(9) OFF lines up as:
White......Miller..Leno..Sitton..Whitehair..Long..Massie..Sims.......Wheaton
.........................................Glennon
.........................................Howard
(10) I see a 4-5 game improvement basically through the improved DEF. But these are what I consider empty wins because they push the Bears into the 7-9 or 8-8 range which means drafting next year anywhere from 12th to 20th.
