Given our lack of early FA success coupled with the depth of this draft in several need areas, I wonder what we could get for that 3rd overall selection. I am reeeeeeaaaalllllyyy jealous of all the draft picks the Browns have been able to assemble and I think it's clear that part of their plan is to collect the ammunition to make a move. Some in the media are speculating that they will try to get Jimmy G from NE by throwing an offer at them they can't refuse. That's possible, but is he really worth it and do they think he is really worth it? Or, is a team like Chicago especially well positioned to take advantage of such a Browns move? If they really like Trubisky, they could get Garrett first and then move up from 12 to 3 to land him. If we drop all the way to 12, then we could get a very nice volume of picks; perhaps some for this year to take advantage of some of the depth in this draft, and/or perhaps some for next year that would give us the opportunity to move up for a potential QB we covet next year.
All I know is, they have a shitload of picks in 2017 and 2018; I sure would like to have some of them.

With all this Browns picks, it sure looks like we could be picking 1st next year good for us

I've been thinking about that about scenario since yesterday's debacle.
If Garrett is there at 3 (very unlikely), then you take him. If Pace has his heart absolutely set on Watson or Trub and thinks they're the "must have" QB, then you take him at 3. I think that's unlikely too. All these guys are projects this year and Glennon is the starter anyway barring a Russel Wilson type surprise scenario.
Pace's best bet is drop down to 10+ if he can find a partner. Since he whiffed in FA, we could really use a couple extra 2nd-3rd round picks to take some shots on rebuilding the secondary from the deep talent in this years draft class. As far as WR goes, I have no friggin clue. The draft isn't considered strong there so I guess you gotta hope Bones White somehow starts producing like a 7 pick and Meredith is for real.
I'm hoping we will trade down at least once in the 1st rd. Maybe the Jets wanna move up to take a QB. Then maybe @ #6 Watson or one of the top 3-4 QBs are still there & the Browns or whoever make an offer we can't refuse & we get more 1st, 2nd & 3rd rd picks. The more early rd picks the better when you're trying to build a winner. Having said that I I don't want to move down too far in the 1st. I'd really like to get one of the top safeties.

Sadly, I think Pace will trade down as well. He has his starter at QB and Shaw is the project. I don't see Pace taking a QB until day three. The good news is that the DEF will be better. The bad news is that 8-8 only means drafting around 20th for the near future. If you think taking a QB at 3 is reaching for talent, wait until we are fighting about taking one @20.
If Pace waits until day three to take a QB and Glennon is a bust, I'll be pretty fricking angry. I don't have scouting reports and insider information or a complete understanding of the QBs coming out, so maybe they all really do suck as NFL prospects, but for an organization that's been behind the times with QBs, I really want to see us start working on solving the issue long term.
The Glennon move is not a flashy move but I can rationalize a system in which it makes sense - namely if the QB prospects this year are weak (and Pace has really good reasoning for believing that - meaning none better turn out as rookie sensations or he'll lose all confidence with Bears nation) OR Pace feels like his ability to get the QB he wants is jeopardized by teams picking before him. THere are other options but I'm not in those meeting rooms so it's hard to fathom their strategy here.
Let's just hope they have a good strategy. It's easy to say if Pace screws up and Fox screws up they're gone. The crappy thing is that we're stuck with a crappy team. I want them both to succeed. I hope they do.

By mixing together hints and whispers from here and there, this is what I believe happened/happens-going-forward.
(1) Fox wanted Cutler gone and had enough weight to get it done. There are rumors that Pace wanted to move on prior to this off-season so I don't think he argued too much.
(2) The Browns with the 1st and 12th picks are screwing things up. If the Brown only had the 1st, they wouldn't be in play for Jimmy G (12th + one of their other 437 draft picks) they would be taking a QB. But because they can draft Garrett + get a QB, its throwing off Pace's planning. Pace isn't sure who will be there @3 and knowing he can't go into the season with Shaw/Barkley/day-2-or-3-rookie he went out and got a QB he knows can start day 1-Glennon.
(3) Now having Glennon on the roster means he doesn't have to pick a QB day 1. He has a starter for at least this season and most likely next. He could still take one @3, but having Glennon plugs the QB hole. More likely than not IMO Pace drafts a defender or trades down for picks+defender.
(4) What about round 2? I think Pace packages picks he got for moving down to go back into round 1 and picks a corner. With the FA S and CB, he adds a rookie S and CB, with Amos/Callahan and the 2016 draft picks as depth. D-backfield is plugged.
(5) Rounds 3-4-5-6-7 goes BPA with an eye toward WR/TE. There will be the DE/DT/NT who falls from round 2 into round 4 before Pace picks him, and the flyer on a Darren Sproules type RB.
(6) There might be a surprise in rounds 6/7, maybe Kelly's nephew the QB whose value was just too great.
(7) I think there will still be 3-4 under the radar signings in FA.
(10) I see a 4-5 game improvement basically through the improved DEF. But these are what I consider empty wins because they push the Bears into the 7-9 or 8-8 range which means drafting next year anywhere from 12th to 20th.

Off topic rant on just that highlighted part and in NO way is this directed at you lol
It's just I don't ****ing get it!!!...Cleveland is a shit franchise trying to drag everyone else down in their shit!!!
Basically they were the worst team in the league last year...they have 5 draft picks in the top 3 rounds...and they are about to give the team that JUST won the SuperBowl 2 of them......****ing brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every team that isn't NE says.....Thanks Cleveland!!!

F**KING IDIOTS!
just for discussion purposes...Why should Cleveland take one for everyone else so to speak? If the QBs are too risky for the Bears to draft one, why should Cleveland? They've been collecting picks for this exact reason--without a QB nothing else matters. So they can get the guy they think is their franchise guy + still have plenty of picks to plug holes. Thats what losing gets you. Isn't that what some posters around here wanted the Bears to do--tank for draft picks? If I had as many picks as they do, I'd do the a same thing. They can get a QB, still have the #1 pick + 458 picks left over to plug holes. It actually is ****ing brilliant. And if Pace were doing it we'd all be ecstatic.
