all I can say to the title of this article is "why?" and shake my head
B/c he's like Orton when he was still young and had upside...he's young and has upside. He'll get you a couple years down the road until you find the a better option.

But honestly, why would we want an Orton-type guy as our franchise QB for a couple of years? Orton was a decent backup QB. But I'd be pretty sad if we had that kind of guy as our starter for a couple of years. Backup, fine. Starter, no.

We'd have Hoyer as the starter with Glennon backing him up. Tell me that's not a QB dream team.

And I understand Ric's point too. Due to the Bears kicking the QB can down the road and not addressing this issue a few years ago, we now find that we are in a tough situation. There are no easy (good) answers here. It's going to be a painful crap shoot no matter what they do at QB. More than likely the Bears will struggle for at least a few more years before they can bring in a true franchise QB who is worth having here. But how sad is that? It stinks.
I think our remaining options are to "buy" a QB and overpay for a guy who may not be that good. Or, we can over-draft a QB who may not be that good. We could get lucky. But we sure could end up screwed for a few years more here.

B/c Orton had potential, he had a higher ceiling, he just never realized it. He went to denver and played well, he then backed up in Dallas and they wanted to keep him around for awhile b/c of Romo's injury b/c he's a capable starter when needed.
Glennon might be just that, a legit backup, boarderline starter or maybe he'll realize his potential and be a legit starter. Either way it's getting you down the road for your mid round pick(if that is what they are doing) can develop. That is not something Cutler is capable of doing.
If we would draft a QB with that #3 overall pick, would you still sign Glennon?
If they sign a guy like Glennon or Taylor they won't be drafting a qb at 3. If they did they'd have 1 or 2 pissed off qb's. If they do it, that is BALLSY and proof they are seriously trying to solve the qb issue.

I guess we could bring Glennon in but his career passer rating is lower than Cutler's, and he's only started in 18 games in 4 years. Sure he's younger but how much more development can he really have at this point? Nor has he played enough to be confident that he won't crater out and play worse. Seems like just another meh option.

When did Cutler's rating peak? He has a lot more improvement to show; mostly b/c he hasn't gotten to show if he's improved. Last time I checked most still believe that 3 years is the watermark, he's gotten little more then 1yr in games; that accelerates some, but if he has anything he should be ready now.
