Hey... I agree that tagging Jeffrey is overpaying him. There is no doubt in my mind. And I don;t subscribe to him being cheaper down the road because down the road is now. Its a one year deal. I am not sure a long term high guarantee deal for him is smart because of his availability.
But with all that said, yes, it is overpaying, but we need to do it. Fix WR next year or even this year, but for a year keep him. Overpay if you have to but not having him will hurt us more than the 5M we are overpaying for one year. It's not like we have not paid someone 5M and got nothing before. You have to pick your battles and I think letting him go at this point in time is stupid.

Not only that...but this is what kicking the can down the road gets you. You could have signed him to a longer term deal previously when he had much less leverage.

I've been thinking that too and then I think about how that could've gone just as bad. Say they did sign him to a 5 year deal for like $12 million a year and $20 million guaranteed last year and he just continued to miss games every year. Fans would be just as mad. I myself would rather have him on the team.

Would they? When a guy like Kenny Stills is about to cash in to the tune of that number? If so those aren't fans you need to concern yourself with.

Go read some other forums and check social media. It seems the general consensus is that Jeffery is not worth that amount of money and it would be stupid to pay him. I think most fans want him on the team but not for the amount it's going to cost. If the Bears did manage to sign him long term he'd be under as much scrutiny as Cutler was after he signed his big deal.

Yeah...you ever read the comments section to articles in the news? Similar deal...there are a lot of dumb asses out there...and they all have wifi. Very few athletes are ever "worth" what they earn. People need to get over that shit. Your worth is determined by the market for your services. Alshon will have a big market, therefore his "worth" is going to be high. The Bears could have signed him to a long term deal 2 years ago, when his "worth" would have been less, but they did not. If they had signed him to a deal that would have paid him 12 mill per year that would put him just above Doug Baldwin in per year average. Is Alshon not a better receiver than Doub Baldwin? How is that over paying?

Not only that but the average Bears fan has always under-valued the OFF skill positions. Just look at recent history. The average Bears fan will tell you one thing, and its rule number 1.
1. DEF is more important than OFF. End of story.
From there the following sub-rules have developed. 1a. Always pick a pass rusher in the first round. 2.You only need an average QB to win SBs (multiple SBs--even though its never been done) 3. When in doubt always draft DEF. 4. Never pay WRs/TEs/RBs 5. running the ball 25+ times a game means you win
About a year ago I posted about the perfect Bears team in the average fans mind. Here it is again.
QB--UDFA RB--day3 pick WR--day3 pick WR--day3 pick TE--use a converted OL RT--day3 pick RG--day3 pick C--UDFA LG--day3 pick LT--day 1 pick unless there is a pass rusher still on the board, then day 2 pick..unless there is a DEF player still on the board otherwise day3 pick
edge rusher--day 1 pick every single year DTs--day 1 or day 2 pick DE--day2 pick OLB--see edge rusher MLB--day3 pick S-day3 pick CB--whenever unless there is a pass rusher
Look, i don't care about Jeffery. Lets just call him, Bears WR, because people can't get past the name. What I do care about is that another OFF skilled position is walking about the door and now resources needed to improve other position are going to be used to replace a WR.
