It shouldn't take 5 years to turn a franchise around. This is football not baseball.
I expect us to be even this year. ( 8-8 )
I think we all expect them to be better this year. Hard not to improve on the worst season we've ever seen.
How long should it take to turn a franchise around? I would say 3 years is a good amount of time to show major improvement. If that's the case then how many staffs have successfully done that?
Well, Pace is on a 5-year contract. I think that's his window. If the team hasn't turned the corner by then, he's probably out the door.
Just going from history, it seems that teams do not like having lame duck HCs or GMs unless they are seriously contemplating letting them go. They tend to be let go or renewed the year prior to their final year. Most of the time anyway. I would say that Pace is probably here until that 4th year for sure. After that it is all dependent on what he has accomplished. If he has made any stupid moves or ignored important issues.
I think not having gone after a QB thus far is a strike against him. I also get the tried and true excuse of having too many needs or that the draft did not fall his way, but at some point when those things continue to happen you have to look at the GM. It sounds like I am down on Pace, but I am not. But a fact is a fact. If he does questionable things, he had better do more good things to counterbalance them. The book is still being written.
Yea that quarterback issue is going to come back to bite him in the ass unless he lucks out this year and gets a game changer. In 2015 and 2016 he could have gotten away with drafting mid-late round QBs. Now he's either gotta make a bold ass move in FA and/or he's gotta draft high.
I find it funny how everyone wanted Emery out after 3 year because some of draft picks didn't pan out here and he hired a ineffective HC. Pace comes along and again we draft picks were not sure will pan out and he hires a ineffective HC. And now people want to give Pace 3 more years. Yes Pace has done a little better in the draft but not all much
I went with 2020 and beyond. He has Fox for another season or 2, and before they'd put him on the chopping block, he'd have to go through at least one more HC. That's a 3-5 year process in and of itself...

I thought I was the only guy that thought Fox was ineffective. Shit. Now you ruined it.

I think we should fire our coach and GM every year, maybe every other year - that'd be pushing it though.

Even years we fire the HC and odd years we fire the GM. Simple

And when do we fire the owners and Sweaty Teddy? Probably when hell freezes over... It feels like that movie "Groundhog Day" here. Coaches and GMs come and go. The decades come and go.
I never followed the stories on this much, but was Pace somewhat forced to hire Fox? Or at least heavily influenced by what's his name...Accorsi
If that is the case, you have to give your GM a fair shot at his guy....meaning Fox needs to pull out an 8-8 season at the very least. If not you let your GM do his job and get his guys in there....
