never draft kickers, bring in a handful and see who wins. worked to get Gould and eddy looks good for a young kicker.
or never bring in kickers via FA.
Looks like the NFL (a number of teams) are struggling to get the right kicker. It is one of the hardest tasks in the NFL. Personally, I think the only position that is more difficult is the quarterback position - and the one thing both of these positions have in common is that the "mental aspect" cannot be measured as a metric. I hope the Bears work with Eddy P. and develop him into a guy who performs well for us for the next 10 or so years. I think he's probably as good a bet as anyone else we'd bring in here at this point. He has the "mental aspect" and is a tough resilient guy (I love that about him). He has the Soldier Field quality leg... the guy has a cannon for a leg. And he has a decent base level of accuracy (the guy has been mighty accurate in this competition of 9 kickers). But yes, he has missed a FEW kicks. Very few. And fans are jumping off the ledge over that. I just don't understand this, other than maybe we are all hyper-sensitive to the kicker woes now and have lost our minds.
Stick with Eddy P. and I believe the team will be rewarded for that decision... for years to come.

Last season was difficult at best when it came to kicking. Many felt we had a shot in the playoffs and the double doink was a solid knife in the heart. The window to win in the nfl is generally small and being we have 1 Super Bowl win any lost opportunity is going to push the fan base off the ledge.
