Jackson is looking at around 14 15mil a year, 70-80 mil contract based on the top safeties currently.
more then TGab will need to be cut, bc more then Jackson will need to be signed, not to mention rookies.
I see four real priority negotiations/signings coming up. Floyd and Whitehair at the end of this season and Jackson and Trubisky at the end of the 2020 season.
We have other guys coming up soon but I don't think they will be too difficult. Bullard , McManis, Sowell, Bush, Robertson-Harris and Houston-Carson all at the end of this season. Cohen, Tolliver, Braunecker and Shaheen at the end of 2020.
I don't even know if you can put Floyd on this list. What has he done last year? He was very lack luster when he should of exploded not having to worry about being the #1 target for offenses.

Well I said signings, not just re signings 2020 FA: PLAYER (17) POS. AGE Danny Trevathan ILB 30 Chase Daniel QB 33 HaHa Clinton-Dix FS 27 Sherrick McManis CB 32 Bradley Sowell TE 31 Aaron Lynch DE 27 Cody Whitehair C 28 Ted Larsen G 33 Nick Williams DT 30 Jonathan Bullard DE 26 Tyler Bray QB 28 Cornelius Lucas RT 29 Patrick Scales LS 32 T.J. Clemmings RT 28 Nick Kwiatkoski ILB 27 Deon Bush S 27 Kevin Pierre-Louis OLB 26
Right now there is no clear replacement for Danny T, and they are losing Nick K(who I think is re signed). Iggy hasn't shown a ton in TC so far; neither of Nick or Iggy are replacements for Danny unless some crazy huge steps are taken from both of them. HaHa and Bush both FA's, you'll need to find a starting and backup FA; or you'll need to re sign them. Lot of OL depth is going away, my guess is they re sign Whitehair like you said, but they'll need more OT/OG depth brought in. I think they'll be fine at DL, Lynch/Bullard can likely be replaced by RRH/Nichols, but you'll need depth signed Gonna need to bring in backup QB's as both Bray and Daniels either need re signed or replaced CB should be good, but McMannis is a key ST'r and is one of the first off the bench also.
It's not just those 2 next year. The Bears trend of 1yr deals to fill out the roster mean there is always guys that need re signed. Some of those can be recouped from the draft obviously, they have 2 2nds, a 5th, 2 6th(possibly a 5th based on Howards performance) and a 7th. But if Pinero is sticks they lose one of those day 3 picks. They don't have a 3rd or a 4th, which are the big rounds for Pace.
2021 fa's PLAYER (11) POS. AGE Allen Robinson WR 28 Prince Amukamara CB 32 Kyle Long G 32 Cordarrelle Patterson WR 30 Leonard Floyd OLB 28 Mike Davis RB 28 Pat O'Donnell P 30 Adam Shaheen TE 27 Ben Braunecker TE 27 Eddie Jackson S 28 Tarik Cohen RB 26
Lot of names on there that matter, lot of starters and primary backups they are looking at losing.
ARob, Prince, Kyle(all guys that are options to be cut in 2020 so they might already be replaced)
But Floyd will get re signed, the Bears like him even if fans don't. Adam Shaheen might well not be resigned, but they'll need a replacement for him and Benny B, or to re signe them

It makes no difference what you or I (or PFF) thinks about Floyd. It all depends on what Pace, Nagy and Pagano think about him. If healthy and assuming Pagano's scheme keeps him near the LOS (and not in coverage like Fangio liked to play him), he will likely have a much different year and command a lot of money in the open market.

Way preliminary of course but yeah it seems likely Pace will have to target ILB & S in next years draft. The team is prob gonna need new blood there as I doubt HaHa or Danny T will be re-signed.
I'd have to check this but I think they have 2 4th round picks next year (one is compensatory) but yeah no 3rd IIRC. I would expect Pace will try to trade down in the 2nd (2 picks there) and recoup another mid-round pick (3rd-4th).
I would hope Daniel will be let go next year and Pace uses a ~ 4th to draft a developmental/backup QB which is way cheaper than paying a vet $5-10m/yr. Bullard will be gone ("just a guy") and Bars should be Larsen's replacement IMO. It's possible he could even become Long's replacement if he develops well in practice this season and/or Long has another significant injury.
No question the team is gonna have to make some tough choices on who to extend, retain, and let go. That's kind of what happens when you're a good team with lots of good (and therefore "expensive") players. There's no way around it. The only teams that can afford to "keep everyone" are those that don't have that many good/expensive players.
The Pats do this stuff every year. They let good players walk, harvest 2-3 comp picks year after year, and with good coaching are able to plug in new, cheaper draft picks and vet FAs and squeeze value out of them.
If the Bears are able to replicate that they will be perennial playoff contender. If not, the team will regress.
I hope they are able to re-sign Trevathan for about the same money he is currently earning. I think we could fit that in.
I know it may be a pipe dream. But I think the combination of Trevathan and Smith is just about the best 3-4 ILB duo in the league.
Agree on the combo being excellent. Have to look it up but I believe Danny T turns 30 this coming offseason. Kyle Long too. Not saying that both these guys can't still have several good years left in them but its gonna get hard to justify keeping them when you have to pay younger players like Jackson, Floyd, Cohen, etc.
Some tough choices are gonna have to be made and that's just the way it is when a team is stacked with talent. There's more "worthy players" than there are cap dollars.

Trevathan's current cap hit is just over $7 million. This is where the pipe dream kicks in, big time. If we could resign him for 3 or 4 years for somewhere between $5 and $6 million per year, we might be able to keep him and sign everybody else.
Just hoping the lure of being on a perennial contender, being a leader on the league's best defense and retiring a Bear will sway him.
I know it is a pipe dream, but I really like him as a player.

I just hope that Denver tanks with Fang at the helm. With Danny T being drafted by Denver and Fang being over there now I fear we could lose him.
