But the issue is if we release Chase, we still have $3 million in dead money and it will take at least $3 million to sign someone like Taylor so you are spending the same and possibly more money for a backup QB.
Exactly, replacing Daniels isn't cost effective right now. Next year more likely.

Next year hes gone for sure
Very likely. I would also hope, if we can nail down some comp picks for 2020, that we might think about drafting a ~ 4th/5th round QB to develop as a backup. I understand why they wanted a vet while Trub was getting his feet wet but a year from now with 3 seasons under his belt, its time to cut the vet-backup/"mentor" cord IMO.
The vast majority of vet backups suck. And most of them cost $5m+ AAV nowadays. A young drafted backup is much cheaper and, if he happens to show promise, can often be traded down the road for picks.

100% agree w/that. something I stressed most of the time Cutler was here

We have been behind the 8-ball talent-wise on the roster for quite a while. Haven't really been able to spare any picks on backup QB which is kind of a "luxury" type selection. Besides, did any of us think coaches like Lovie, Tice, Trestman, Kromer, Fox, and Logjam were capable of developing a young QB? Heck, with the exception Trestman's 1st year, the Bears 1st string O, especially in the passing game, was pretty much the laughingstock of the NFL.
I feel like we finally have a talented enough roster and coaching staff where can afford and it makes sense to look at mid-late round QBs in the draft. Especially so if Pace is wise enough to start stockpiling comp picks.
