I thinking trading Howard is a dumb idea. He is a damn-good running back when used properly in the offense. That is proven. Even in the Nagy scheme, he is still better than what we are going to end up with after the trade.
I don't know. Howard was only a 5th round pick. Cohen was a 4th round pick.
I don't see where draft position has much to do with it. Either a guy can play or he can't. Howard is a much better runner than most 5th round picks. If they trade him, it is going to leave us a gap at that position, and we will have to spend money needed elsewhere to fill it or else settle for some guy who is not as good as Howard. And I don't think Nagy needs to change that much in his "scheme" in order to use Howard more effectively. As we said before, they don't have the right play-calling/blocking plan to get him in "space" where he has some options to make cuts and use his blockers. That is one of the reasons his yards-per-carry fell off last year compared to his first two years.

Why? what did he do last year that just about ANY other RB could do instead of him? Not talking his 1st 2 years when he was going to get the bulk of the attention; those days are over. Talking about now, in this offense w/these coaches. How is he missed; how is that not easily replaced?
although 670 seems to think this is more about S then RB.
But what safety? I was looking at Amos and Gibson, both are gone. Who else is demanding big money (outside of Thomas who would most likely be out of position at SS)? I could see freeing up to grab multiple people.

That's my feeling also, they'll grab a few players w/this cash. S/WR/RB/K are all possibilities.

+1 And the bottom-line is that the Bears could use an RB that better fits the Nagy offense. Howard will probably be better in an offense better suited to his skills. It seems win/win for both the Bears and Howard to part ways. Not a knock on Howard at all. And sure he could contribute in this Nagy offense, but he is a more expensive option that is not the best fit for what Nagy wants to do at RB. My gut feeling is that Pace will find a solid RB and we have no worries.
I wonder if we attempt to go after a guy like Le'Veon Bell? Not a fan of overpaying for a RB but he would be a true playmaker we don't have on the offense similar to Khalil Mack on the defensive side of the ball.
We just freed up 11 million from Khalil Mack.
You don't make bold moves like this if you're not attempting a big FA signing.

I'm gonna go back a few years and talk about Anthony Thomas and Thomas Jones. AT was a successful back for the Bears from 2001 to 2003.
But then there was a coaching change. Now, AT didn't fit, and they brought in TJ. Different style of RB. Great, whatever makes the OC happy. Granted, Shea sucked, but I'd like Nagy to have whatever he needs to better suit his offense. He seems to have a handle on this "modern NFL offense" that our previous coaches only heard about in legends as they cooked Brontosaurus meat by the campfire.
