Hello, people of Chi-Town, I'm back with another special article that was originally a Purple Pain exclusive, but for this week, I'll be posting it here with a bit of an emphasis on the Bears. I hope you will enjoy it!
This simulation of the Vikings-Bears matchup will be performed via Strat-O-Matic Football, a board game simulator. I'm going to assume that the majority of you guys have not heard of it, so I highly recommend you read the intro to this article. There I explain how exactly the simulation works and how much control I have over it, so if you're interested in how any of this works, you should probably peruse that article.
Alright, so, assuming that you've read the explanation of how this will works, let's dive on in!

* My thoughts *
Alright, so you might be thinking, "won't he play this game in favor of the Vikings because he's a huge Vikings fan?", and the answer is no. My evidence to back that statement up is that in all 4 Strat-O-Matic simulations, the Vikings have went 0-4... of course . I did my best to replicate how both offenses work, as I call the plays for each side and determine who ends up with the ball on all plays. I did my best to simulate how a typical Bears game might go with Allen Robinson receiving the biggest workload and throwing several short passes and screens to Tarik Cohen.
More on that 4th quarter... even with the downright lucky punt return TD that Tarik Cohen scored to start the 4th quarter (the odds of getting that are around 2%), the Vikings would later hold a 2 possession lead, but they blew it away. Trubisky hit Allen Robinson on a 70 yard pass and ended up with the FG to bring it to a one possession game, and I couldn't quite get the Vikings to close out the game. On a crucial 3rd and 4 with 2:15 to go in the 4th quarter, I called a pass play to Rudolph that fell incomplete (I couldn't trust the run game, Cook and Murray had no room to run today). The Bears saved a timeout and were able to hit Allen Robinson on a 45 yard pass later on and eventually put the game away. And, of course, Cody Parkey hit all his kicks even though I downgraded his kicking ability due to last week's game.
Khalil Mack was able to notch 2 sacks in the first quarter, but the Vikings adjusted with faster passing plays and they were able to keep him from doing any further harm. The Vikings won the turnover battle 3-1, and the one pick Cousins threw doesn't really count because it was a desperation pass as time ran out in the 4th quarter. The Bears O-line wasn't able to handle the Vikings pass rush on a few downs as Trubisky fumbled the ball twice, with the Vikings recovering one of them. Despite this, the Bears were able to rally and gas the Vikings defense in the late 4th quarter.
Neither of the run games had anywhere to go today, as both teams rate very highly in the run-stopping department. Trubisky wasn't able to break any big runs either.
Alright, how do you think this went? Is this an accurate reflection of the Bears offense and defense and could tomorrow's game possibly go like this one did? I'd like to hear your thoughts and go ahead and ask any questions about the Strat-O-Matic simulation too.
