How important is it for the Bears to re-sign Kyle Fuller?

Top ten CBs are getting $12-$14 mil per year on average and he's not at that level.  The next step down are those ranked 10-20 who average $8-$10 mil per year which is most likely where Fuller would fit.  If Pace wants Trumaine Johnson he's gonna need to go a lot higher than $10 mil so maybe Fuller should be his target. 

He can cut Cooper and save himself $5 mil he can use to re-sign Amukamara and Fuller or he ends up maybe needing to use that #1 pick on a CB.  This is gonna be one of Pace's tests.  The secondary is finally much improved.  Now, can he keep it together while he resolves other problems like edge rushers?

Not sure why you compare what another team will pay for a player to what the Bears would pay. Yes, there is an overall market that says top players at a certain position go for a certain price, but EVERY TEAM individually has to decide the worth of a player TO THEIR ORGANIZATION.

If a need is severe, the amount that a team will pay for that player will be higher than another team would pay. Does that mean that team overpayed? It depends on your definition of overpayed vs market economic definition of overpaid. If the worth to a team is higher than the worth of the same player to another team, that team did not overpay. They paid what it was worth to them. They may have some sidk based overhead in there ie. some other team may take him and we really need him so we will go over what we think that team will pay. So then did that team overpay? No. They calculated that expense into the cost of the player and into the risk that having that hole would cost them and their price (worth to them went up).

So if you had liver cancer, the price you would be willing to pay for the drug you felt would cure it would be more than a person that did not have liver cancer. Obvious, but true and the way the market works. Taking it further. If there were a few others that had liver cancer and they also knew about the drug and they were also going to bid on it, you might pay higher than you even thought you would at first. Whatever it sells for is the market rate of the drug at that point in time. Any future transactions will be made with that baseline in mind, with the knowledge that there will probably be at least one person with liver cancer at any time that will need it.

If at some point there are no people with liver cancer it would sell for less (and that would be the market price at that point in time), or there may be a large number of people with liver cancer that also had lots of money buying (cap space) it at some point and drive the price way higher than it was before. That is then the market price at that point in time. People will say that they overpaid, but all they did was pay more than it had sold for before. To them, it was a price they were willing to pay and FOR THEM, worth it.

In this case, taking it even further, if a patient had previous experience with this drug and knew it worked well (a player already on the team), the drug would be worth even more than to another that hoped it would work for them. So Fuller might be worth more to the Bears than another team. If they pay more did they overpay? No. They paid what the player was worth to them to make sure they kept him.

What makes it correct is if it makes sense for the Bears.
