Way back I looked at all the needs and figured 2 FA and 2 Draft picks a year then it would be about 4 to 5 years to be competitive. Several agreed in principle at the time. Using the the same logic we need 2 WR and Edge Rusher, CB and OT. If we have a good off season and get coaching write, maybe competitive next year. My guess is two more years to be competitive as in serious playoff contender
This is the NFL, a team can turn around in 1 year. Why are we treating this like its the MLB? Pace came in here and destroyed what talent we had on offense and got very little back for our defense. 2 more years is a lot to ask for in the NFL.
There comes a time when you have to let the GM go when you believe he's doing more harm then good. Now is the time. No one had a problem when Emery was let go but with Pace its different even with a worse record?
I think Toub is a possibility but by no means the only one and maybe not even then best one.
We don't have access to all of the data needed to hire an NFL HC so we use what knowledge we do have, some empirical data we can process, and a whole lot of gut instincts. Some candidates will rule themselves out if total roster control is on their list of demands. I've already at least drawn a pencil line through a few of those.
I also don't know where a 4-5 year process to rebuild came from. When Focks was hired it was assumed year two would show massive improvement and he failed just as he has again this season. Based on this I suppose some are now looking at this taking 4-5 years because we seem to have wasted three but it was never sold like that three years ago.
That could be me. I started out saying 3-4 years but bumped it to 4-5 after year 1 with Pace and realized how devoid of talent we were and we didn't make much progress year 1. Now I believe we have more talent, not enough to be dominant, but enough we should be solid.
Bring in the RIGHT HC and I would now say 2 years. The wrong one and, well, not for a very long time.
Well just stop it then. It's making me sad and I'm about to cry. LOL
