I know this is sacrilegious around here but I don't understand why Toub gets so much love. Yes he worked here, so did lots of other coaches but no one mentions Haley, Olsen.....I never saw him as HC material.
1. Obviously, we want the Bears to get it right this time.
2. I hope the Bears can bring in quality coordinators and position coaches to compliment the HC.
3. I hope that Ryan Pace can upgrade the talent on the roster so that the coaches have rock solid player talent to work with.
I figure anyone can fire coaches. That's the easy part. It's the hiring that is killing us... that and the roster talent is the challenge. But Toub? I don't know why he has never got an HC gig. I don't know if he's a great choice or not.
I have heard that ST coords have deeper knowledge of the back end of rosters because that is where they typically draw their players from. I've heard that mentioned as a plus because they may be able to pluck players from other rosters that are unknowns. B.Belichik was a ST coord, but he was also a LB coach and a DC coord before he was hired. Harbough (Balt not SF) coached in college from 1984-1997 before moving to Balt as ST-coord and then moved to DB coach. Toub served as a strength/conditioning coach in college, coaching OL and DL as well. In the pros he has only been a ST coach. I honestly don't know if he is qualified or not. The only support posters verbalize is that he once coached in Chicago and Dikta and Harbough were ST coaches before becoming HCs.
Depending on how he brings in as OC and DC, he might be a good hire.
